The volume of oil in the automatic transmission honda srv rd1. How to change the oil in an automatic transmission on a Honda CR-V. Should I flush the box?

06.09.2020

Many Russian motorists want their favorite car to have a comfortable modern interior, a powerful engine, and an excellent suspension that can handle any off-road conditions. These characteristics are consistent with the crossover, which was designed by engineers and designers. Japanese company Honda Motor Co., Ltd. The model is called CR-V III (third generation). The car was produced from 2007 to 2012, after which it was replaced by a new 4th generation model.

Transmission features

Honda SRV 3 is equipped with two types of gearboxes - manual transmission (manual 6-speed) and automatic transmission (automatic with 5 steps). The automatic box includes:

According to numerous reviews from car owners, the CR-V automatic does its job very well - it shifts gears very smoothly and gives minimal excessive fuel consumption. The torque converter operates in the range of motion from second to fifth gear. McPherson front suspension and multi-link rear suspension make it easy and comfortable to ride on any road. On the Internet, by advertising videos, you can appreciate the beauty and power of this car.

Grade Logic system as component Automatic transmission shifts gears not only depending on engine speed. Driving conditions are also analyzed - downhill, from the mountain, around the city, on rough roads, as well as the throttle position, the use of the brake pedal and other parameters. Depending on this, the regulator with a fuzzy algorithm selects the most suitable gear, moving the shift point in one direction or another.

Structurally, the automatic transmission, designed by Honda specialists, differs from similar units from other manufacturers. Other materials are used in the production of parts, the design withstands higher temperatures, because it is able to work under heavy loads. Therefore, the deputy chief designer of Honda Motors, Masahira Ishikawa, claims that no other ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) can be poured into the automatic transmission, except for the one provided by the manufacturer. It used to be ATF Z1, today it is the original ATF DW1. Otherwise, the box will fail after 30-40 thousand km, since no other oil is able to withstand such a temperature regime - it will simply boil, with far-reaching consequences.

When and how to change the transmission fluid

CR-V owners should remember that in a Honda automatic transmission, the working fluid changes only by mileage. That is, it is useless to hope and wait until the oil darkens and sediment appears in it. Transmission fluid, as a rule, does not change color, consistency over time and remains the same transparent. Only its properties change, many of which are lost after a run of 30–40 thousand km. Therefore, it is highly recommended to replace the ATF after every 30,000 miles. If you have additional questions on this topic, look at the video footage, there are a lot of them on the Internet.

If the operating conditions are difficult, only partial replacement is regularly performed, then it is advisable to change it more often, after 15–20 thousand km. You will not keep the schedule - over time, expensive repairs may be needed. If the vehicle is purchased for secondary market, then an oil change is immediately required, no matter what the previous owner of the car says. According to Masahira Ishikawa, the oil change method used in automatic transmissions from other manufacturers is not suitable for CR-V machines.

That is, pumping oil under pressure and using a large amount of new fluid at the same time can only do harm. After all, the design of the gearbox at Honda is unique. There are at least two reasons why you should not flush the box:

  1. The Honda machine does not have a removable pan, so it cannot be physically removed and cleaned of deposits. During flushing, this turbidity will rise from the pan and settle on the filter, clogging it.
  2. The filter is not removable and not reusable. To get to it, you will need to completely disassemble the gearbox, it is unlikely that the service station will agree to this, and the cost of such work is very high.

Thus, the failure of the filter will sooner or later lead to the breakdown of the entire automatic transmission. A clogged filter causes an increase in the pressure of the working fluid at the inlet of the system and its absence at the outlet. As a result - the inability to move off or the start of movement at high engine speeds. This means that the automatic transmission in the CR-V has failed and will require a very expensive repair.

Optimal and correct for the 3rd generation CR-V will be a partial replacement, in which the automatic transmission will require about 4 liters of ATF DW1 oil - however strange it may seem at first glance. This transmission fluid has replaced ATF Z1 and is fully compatible with it. That is, it is possible to partially replace the ATF DW1 instead of the previously filled ATF Z1.

The procedure for partial replacement of the lubricant

Changing the oil in a 3rd generation Honda SRV car is shown on the video - many videos on this topic can be found on the Internet. Partial replacement of the lubricating fluid can be done independently, only for this you need to place the car on a flyover or above an inspection hole. In addition, you need to purchase 4 liters of the original ATF DW1 transmission fluid (preferably with a small margin), as well as rubber gloves, work clothes, a set of tools and a container into which the old fluid will be drained.

  1. The engine and transmission warm up, the Honda CR-V is placed on a flyover or above a viewing hole. The hood opens, and after 5 minutes after the engine is turned off, the oil level in the automatic transmission is measured. If it is lower than required, a new one is added to the filler hole (where the dipstick was) to the required level (just below the top mark of the dipstick). After this procedure, the probe is not installed back.
  2. After another 5-10 minutes, you can drain the old transmission fluid. The time delay is done so that the oil cools down a little and does not cause burns. Then you need to find a drain hole. The machine should be located to the right of the engine belt. In order to get to the drain plug, you will have to remove the protection (if installed) and clean the drain plug with a metal brush from dirt. It should be near the right front wheel of the Honda SRV.
  3. A container with a volume of at least 4 liters is substituted under the cork, and the cork is carefully unscrewed with a 3/8 tetrahedron. You need to twist it with your fingers, after putting on gloves so that it does not fall into the container. Oil will begin to flow out of the automatic transmission case.
  4. After a while, it will completely stop flowing. The container should contain about 3–3.5 liters of waste fluid. After that, the magnetic end of the drain plug must be cleaned of metal chips and dirt, for this you can use WD-40. Be sure to replace the old aluminum washer in the cork with a new one after cleaning.
  5. The volume of the leaked liquid is measured, this can be done using plastic bottles with a volume of 1 liter, pouring mining into it. After that, it will be known more precisely how much old grease has leaked out.
  6. The cork is installed in its place. The stage of filling a new lubricant begins. For this purpose, you can use a funnel with a hose or a large syringe (not medical), to which you also need to connect the hose. The hose is inserted into the filler hole (where the dipstick is located). The replacement of a new transmission fluid in the automatic transmission is carried out in the same volume as it leaked out.
  7. During the filling process, you need to be careful not to pour ATF, it is better to add a little later. Otherwise, you will have to climb under the hood again, remove the dipstick and suck the excess fluid back with a syringe.
  8. The engine starts and warms up, and with it the automatic transmission. After warming up, the motor turns off and a temporary pause is taken from 3 to 5 minutes. Only after that, the level of the working fluid is measured with a dipstick. This sequence is mandatory for the Honda CR-V.

According to the oil level in the Honda CR-V automatic transmission: some craftsmen advise that it be on the top bar of the dipstick. Others believe that the level should be located in the middle, between the minimum and maximum. In any case, the car will drive normally, the main thing is that the level is not higher than the maximum. Otherwise, the gearbox will have problems over time.

And one more tip: do not fill in transmission fluid from other manufacturers - only from Honda. Only in this case, the CR-V transmission will delight you with trouble-free confident operation.

There are also supporters of a complete oil change, but this may require 10-12 liters of ATF. Replacement is made in 2-3 doses, between them you need to drive a car for a week.

Changing the oil in an automatic transmission Honda SRV is one of those mandatory procedures, without which the car undergoes rapid wear. Despite the fact that the Honda CR-V is positioned as a reliable budget crossover with the makings of an SUV, its units are not eternal and require constant attention from the owner. And the "automatic" box is the most capricious mechanism in the car.

Transmission oil change interval

Most often, Russian motorists are faced with the procedure for changing the oil in the MR4A automatic box on a Honda SRV 3 car. This modification, produced from 2007 to 2011, won recognition from many compatriots. Even a high-quality original "transmission" with mileage loses its working properties and no longer copes with its tasks.

Over time, the automatic transmission of the Honda crossover begins to behave capriciously and this manifests itself in the form of symptoms:

  • peregazovka during gear changes;
  • jolts with the accelerator pedal depressed;
  • slippage during start;
  • with speed change.

This interval also applies to other modifications of the model. For those who are accustomed to driving in speed mode or load the transmission off-road, change the fluid more frequently.

In order for the automatic transmission (automatic transmission) on a Honda CR-V car to work more stable, it is necessary to carry out regular maintenance and periodically replace consumables, which include oil changes.

Changing the oil in an automatic transmission Honda CR-V allows you to:

  • Increase the service life of the box - automatic
  • Protect it from overheating
  • Neutralize wear products that appear in the course of constantly rubbing against each other parts.

When should a full and partial oil change be carried out in an automatic gearbox? Honda CR V

Partial oil changes in automatic transmissions are carried out during regular and periodic service inspections, as well as in case of poor gear shifting. It is done very simply, but more on that later.

  • When buying a used car, when it is difficult to determine the quality of the liquid
  • With a car mileage of more than 90 thousand kilometers
  • When a constant overheating of the gearbox is detected
  • Breakdowns and malfunctions in which it is necessary complete replacement oils

This manipulation requires special equipment in the form of a flushing unit, therefore, in most cases, work is carried out in service centers.

Step-by-step instructions for changing the oil in an automatic transmission Honda CR V

Well, let's get down to the very procedure for changing the oil and automatic transmission Honda CR-V:

  1. After you and I have turned off the engine, we take out the dipstick, clean it and measure the oil level in the interval of 60 - 90 seconds. The level must be in the range of marks
  2. We unscrew the drain plug and drain the old oil.
  3. We remove the battery air filter, and unscrew the external filter, in my case it rests on the clamps. We replace it with a new one.
  4. Pour new oil through the dipstick. By the way, do not forget to screw the drain bolt back.
  5. We do a run-in of the box within 10 km, in all gears.

Well, that's basically it, I think my manual is about partial replacement oil and automatic transmission of a car. Honda CR-V will help you save more than one thousand rubles on maintenance your car.

The most massive Honda external filter for automatic transmissions. It began to be installed on Honda cars at the end of 2001. Such a filter is available on Honda Civic 7 (only on the CVT), 8 and 9 generations, Honda SRV 2, 3, 4 and 5 generations, Honda Accord 7, 8 and 9 generations and many others. As you can see, demand creates supply, and our Chinese friends produce fakes for this filter in huge quantities. Let's look at one of them.

Appearance does not cause much suspicion. Those who are especially attentive may notice a slight difference in the font of writing. The packaging and label are very well done. On this one can forget about the good.

A fake filter has less weight. They couldn't even do it right.

1. There is always a mark on the original filter on the inlet side. Such a factory feature is available from Toyo Roki and their subsidiary American office Filtech. It is these companies that produce this filter.

2. The metal color of fakes is always yellowish. The paint is uneven. The metal is much thinner. They even differ in shape.

3. The date of manufacture of the filter and the date when it was packed is indicated on the filter itself and on the labels.

Original date of manufacture: 7B27 = 17 year, February, 27 day
Original packing date: 7S09 = 17 year, March, 9 day.

Fake date of manufacture: 4B27 = 14 year, February, 27 day
Fake packing date: 4C13 = 14 year, March, 13 day.

Fake details often write the 46th day or non-existent month. Their release years are usually 3-4 years behind. Or vice versa for 1-2 years ahead. How to determine the release date you can see on this page.

In a fake filter, the amount of filter element is much smaller, and so that the cartridge does not hang out, it is supported by a spring.

And here the most interesting begins. The filters are sawn in one place, and their designs are very different.

1. The bypass valve on the original is on the inlet side, and on the fake it is upside down.

To make it more clear why this valve exists, we made this picture. Under normal conditions, the oil enters the filter element along the outer wall, passes through it and enters the automatic transmission already cleaned. If the oil is very thick (in severe frost) or if the filter element is completely clogged, the oil passes through this bypass valve.

The filter is specially made asymmetrical. This is the so-called foolproofing. So that when installing it could not be put backwards. And that the valve is always on the inlet side.

But on a fake, this valve was put upside down. The Chinese did not begin to think about what the valve is for and how the liquid circulates in the net.

For the purity of the experiments, we still decided to show how much paper is in the fake.

The filter element on the fake is not only smaller in height, but its diameter is noticeably smaller than the original. Which ultimately gives a significantly smaller filtration area.

Well, as usual. How the original and the fake glow in the ultraviolet.

1. There are two luminescent signs on the original. The letter "H" glows brightly, the letter "N" seems to be half-glow.

Fake all glows like regular paper.

The automatic transmission is the most complex mechanism in any car. Owners of such cars are required to constantly pay attention to its condition. Carry out service maintenance in time, systematically change the ATF and oil filter.

According to the manufacturer's recommendation, replacement of 3 and 1 should be carried out every 30-35 thousand kilometers. But in our conditions terrible roads this period should be cut in half. It is very important if you bought not new car, then do not try to save money, but replace the transmission fluid immediately.

Reasons indicating the need for topping up fluid in the automatic transmission or its complete replacement:

  1. Jerking while shifting gears.
  2. Kicks when you press the gas pedal.
  3. Various kinds of slippage and frequent peregazovki.

What kind of oil and how much

ATF-Z1 is a special mineral gear lubricant for automatic boxes Traditional type Honda. It was used on all cars until 2011 release. ATF-Z1 is unique and recommended for Honda automatic transmissions produced since 1995. Since 2011, cars have been operated on the new ATF-DW1 oil.

Replacing the lubricant mixture in Honda SRV 3 and 1 cars occurs in approximately the same way. The only difference is that the Honda SRV 1 will require 3.5 liters, and the Honda SRV 3 a little over 4 liters. lubricants ATF Z1 (or ATF DW-1).

Tools

  • Honda ATF Z1 transmission fluid (or ATF DW-1) - 3.5-4l.
  • External cleaning barrier 25430-PLR-003.
