What automatic transmission modifications can be replaced

All gearboxes of the DSG 7 modification are subject to restoration and replacement. Automatic transmissions of this type are installed on the following vehicles:

  • Skoda Yeti (1.4 engine 125 hp, torque 250 N/m)
  • Octavia (1.4 engine 150 hp, torque 250 N/m)
  • Rapid (with 1.4 liter engine, 125 hp and torque 200 N/m)
  • Superb (equipped with 1.4 and 1.8 liter engines with power of 150 and 180 hp and torque of 250 and 320 N/m, respectively)

Advantages of DSG 7 and its design features

Many car enthusiasts have a good idea of the difference between automatic transmission transmission from mechanical. And most people consider DSG 7 an “automatic” too. Although this opinion is partly erroneous, because such a box is robotic and is a kind of hybrid of automation and mechanics. Its mechanical structure is more similar to traditional mechanics, and in terms of driving comfort and ease of use, the DSG 7 has been endowed with all the properties inherent in modern automatic transmissions.

The main technical difference is that the robotic DSG 7 is equipped with two shafts and, accordingly, two clutch mechanisms, which means it can perform the functions of two gearboxes at once. The principle of its operation is also interesting. When the driver engages first gear, second gear is engaged on the second shaft. In this case, the clutch of the second shaft remains disengaged. It turns on automatically when upshifting. The clutch of the first shaft is also automatically disengaged at this moment.

This design significantly affects the driving dynamics of the car, taking it to a new level, and the presence of a two-position dry clutch helps avoid power losses. Today, DSG 7 is considered one of the most suitable gearboxes for city cars, because it is lightweight and compact in size.

Speaking about the advantages of boxes of this type, we can note:

  • Excellent dynamics and ease of gear shifting;
  • Almost instantaneous gear engagement;
  • No attenuation and loss of power when switching from one gear to another;
  • Economical.

Mechatronics – the heart of DSG 7

Not a single robotic gearbox can do without this important and very expensive unit. It is the mechatronics that transmits the signal to change gears and also controls the operation of the clutch. The principle of its operation lies in the precise operation of sensors, electronics and the executive mechanical part.

If any mechatronics unit fails, the official dealer replaces it completely, which, with the cost of such a service being about 2,000 euros, makes it very expensive. Service centers usually make do with repairing or replacing the faulty module, which allows the repair to be carried out much cheaper.

Some disadvantages of mechatronics

Like many electronic-mechanical devices, mechatronics is not without its drawbacks. It has more than 400 parts that are located very close to each other, which accelerates their wear.

Very often, it is the mechatronics that becomes the root cause of malfunctions and malfunctions in the gearbox. In particular, its electronic filling is very sensitive to sudden temperature changes; overheating is especially fatal for the mechatronics electronic board.

Description of common faults

  • The speed does not turn on, movement is impossible. The PRND error indicator or wrench icon is flashing.

Possible causes: Malfunction in the mechatronics unit or mechanical part of the gearbox. The exact cause is identified using computer diagnostics.

  • The error described above is displayed during normal driving, while the gearbox itself operates intermittently.

Mechatronics check required. As a rule, such a problem arises precisely there.

  • The movement begins with sharp jerks and at the moment of gear shifting.

This problem can be resolved by replacing the clutch.

  • The beginning of movement is accompanied by strong vibration and noticeable shocks. Especially when the car is moving uphill.

Just like the previous case, it is necessary to replace the clutch.

  • When engaging second gear, there are jerks.

The cause of the malfunction lies in problems in the clutch assembly. It needs to be replaced.

  • When the ignition is turned on, the PRND error indicator or “wrench” appears. A characteristic buzzing sound is heard.

This indicates abnormal operation of the mechatronics.

  • After the faulty mechatronics was replaced with a used analogue, jerking is felt when the gear is engaged and at the start.

Malfunction in the clutch assembly.

What should a car owner remember to extend the life and smooth operation of the DSG 7 gearbox?

The presence of DSG 7 completely eliminates the possibility of chip tuning the car. A spectacular start to movement from a traffic light and tricks with elements of slipping are also unacceptable. A dry clutch type and a minimum of lubricating fluid have a detrimental effect on the mechanical parts. Therefore, you should not accelerate their wear.

It is also necessary to change the transmission fluid promptly and regularly.

Driving in traffic jams is best done in 1st gear in Tiptronik semi-automatic mode.

The Skoda OCTAVIA was, to its advantage, equipped with a 6-speed TF61SN gearbox. "Machine". Quite a reliable unit to operate. As practice has shown, these are the ones that are now being repaired. And it was quite predictable. After all, the average mileage for which such gearboxes are designed is about 200 thousand kilometers. This means that for many Skoda owners the time has come to replace this key unit.

Finally, I would like to note that modern 7-speed DQ200 with a wet clutch or DQ500 with a dry clutch are more demanding in terms of operating conditions than traditional 6-speed automatic transmissions. And they require large expenses for restoration and repair.

Most often, such gearboxes exhibit faults in the mechatronics, problems with the normal operation of the solenoids, and in the mechanical part of the clutch. When restoring an automatic transmission of a Skoda Octavia, transmission fluid is included in the cost of repair and restoration work.

What does a DSG 7 repair consist of?

Replacing the DSG 7 clutch

Old clutch - jammed, no gap at all

Old clutch - even both bearings are overheated

The clutch itself is a fairly reliable mechanism, but over time they still wear out. In this case, the DSG 7 Skoda Octavia clutch is replaced. On a 6-speed gearbox, which, as is known, is a wet-type gearbox, this procedure is carried out much less frequently (about once every 150-200 thousand km, subject to moderate use, although cars with mileages of about 300 thousand km arrived quite often) than in a dry type gearbox, where replacing the clutch with a DSG 7 may be necessary starting from 25-30 thousand km.

You should also know that the clutch responsible for odd gears wears out faster, because it is responsible for the operation of 1st and reverse gears (increased load). Constantly driving in traffic jams also negatively affects the clutch life.

Initially, manufacturers of 6 and 7 speed DSGs provided the possibility of replacing clutches in the gearbox and, accordingly, produce repair kits. After this procedure, clutch adaptation is required. We provide a 1-year guarantee for this work (replacement+adjustment+adaptation+installation).

Repair and replacement of mechatronics DSG 7

In the vast majority of cases, problems with a dual-clutch transmission begin with the mechatronics (it actually controls the switching process). On DSG 6, on average, everything happens later than on DSG 7.

Problems with it may arise due to fur. wear of the solenoids (jerks appear). In this case, usually a complete replacement of the mechatronics is not required, but only the solenoids are changed.

Second problem area is an electronic mechatronics control unit, problems usually arise with it due to overheating (when started on a cold system, the system goes into emergency mode). If the unit cannot be restored, it is replaced followed by reprogramming under the right car. We reprogram DQ200 DQ250 mechatronics for a specific car.

Typical symptoms of malfunctions

Basically, a harbinger of problems is the appearance of jerks and jolts when starting to move and when switching to lower gears (downshifting). In a worse case scenario, the gearbox does not turn on and, accordingly, the car does not drive. In most cases, the box goes into emergency mode, which does not go away when the errors are reset (not always). You shouldn’t leave it to chance, as the rule always works - the sooner, the cheaper it is to repair the mechatronics of DSG 7 Skoda Octavia A5 02E 0AM 0CW, etc.

What to do if mechatronics repair is not possible?

This happens quite often (usually after accidents). It needs to be replaced with a used one, repaired or new, and then reprogrammed for the right car. We have used, repair mechatronics for DSG 7 in stock. On the spot we will reprogram it for the desired vehicle within 20 minutes. The cost of work is indicated in the table (see above).

Mechanical part DSG 7

There are also problems with it.

Wear of bearings produces noise when moving, which increases with the number of revolutions and speed. It can be solved by opening and then replacing the set of bearings.

The shift fork is destroyed - even gears disappear and reverse. It goes into emergency mode.

Destruction of the needle bearing on the input shaft, leakage of the input shaft oil seal. For those who change the clutch, it is strongly recommended to replace these 2 parts.

How does DSG6 work?

The DSG 6 (DQ250) gearbox uses wet clutches. The 1st clutch is responsible for engaging odd gears and reverse gear, the second is responsible for even gears. This design allows you to engage the next gear while the previous one is still in operation, and shift under load without interrupting the transmission of torque to the wheels. The weight of this 6-speed gearbox is ~ 93 kg, which is noticeably more than that of the DSG-7.

The operation of clutches and gear shifting are controlled by a special unit in the gearbox - mechatronics, which, in its work, uses the readings of specialized sensors and other electronic systems of the car.

In general, the DSG6 on the Octavia A5 is a fairly reliable transmission, much less problematic than its 7-speed brother, but at the same time, it also needs to be repaired. Problems can be due to bearing wear, clutch wear, as well as the dual-mass flywheel and, of course, mechatronics. Any of these problems can be solved quite inexpensively - DQDL carries out both partial and major repairs of the DSG 6 Octavia A5. It is also possible to replace it with a contract DSG6 (DQ250) with reprogramming of the mechatronics for the desired vehicle.

But still, the most problematic components in this checkpoint are:

Usually with problems they end up being repaired. DSG boxes 6 for Skoda Octavia A5 to our DQDL service.

What does a DSG6 repair consist of?

Repair/replacement of mechatronics DSG-6

Problems with mechatronics can arise due to the mech. wear of the solenoids (jerks appear). In this case, usually a complete replacement of the mechatronics is not required, but only the solenoids are changed.

Mechatronik 02E DQ250

The second problem area is the mechatronics electronic control unit; problems usually arise with it due to overheating (when started on a cold system, the system goes into emergency mode). If the unit cannot be restored, then it is replaced and then reprogrammed for the desired machine. We reprogram DSG6 DQ250 02E mechatronics for a specific vehicle.

Replacing the DSG-6 clutch

If the clutch of the DSG6 gearbox wears out significantly, the ECU begins to extend the clutch engagement rod as much as possible, thereby forcing the oil pump to constantly work. As a result, it begins to overheat (usually the contact insulation melts), and a short circuit may occur in the DSG ECU itself (due to increased temperature).

The clutch that is most subject to wear is the one responsible for the odd gears, since with its help the car starts moving (and as is known at this moment the maximum load). The condition of the clutch (its liveliness) can be determined through diagnostics.

Work examples

Octavia A5 2011 1.4T 122 hp DSG 7 0AM DQ200 mechatronics replacement. Incoming diagnostics showed a malfunction of the hydraulic part of the mechatronics, as well as sufficient wear of the clutch. After agreement with the client, it was decided to repair only the hydraulic part of the mechatronics, and postpone the replacement of the clutch until the summer - with normal diagnostics it is possible to predict critical wear of the clutch and say how long it will last. We replaced the hydraulic part, poured new oil into the box and carried out adaptation.

The bearing in the crankshaft has fallen apart and eaten the shaft - it needs to be replaced

The 0AM box (partner service from the Skoda club) came in for repair. Troubleshooting revealed a primary shaft eaten by a bearing in the crankshaft, oil leaks from under the seals, as well as a collapsed second clutch fork. The box was disassembled, washed - all seals were replaced. The input shaft has been replaced (spare parts are available (if you need spare parts - write)), the box has been assembled. The clutch forks were replaced, the clutch remained original. The box has been sent for installation.

Surely every person has a book that he loves to reread dozens of times! And every time he discovers something new and interesting. A kind of standard for all other books. The car of the Czech company Skoda Octavia A5 became such a standard - a real bestseller and a legend of the Czech automobile industry for 20 years now!

The company's engineers have provided for everything in it! Every detail, every bolt, stitch of thread is worked with high precision. There is no marriage to be found in it. And the automatic transmission is recognized as the best in its class.

During the creation of this model, the designers did everything so that the future car owner could update consumables with his own hands without any problems. At the same time, without experiencing any difficulties, and did not experience any problems when selecting new components.

Functions of automatic transmission oil in a car

When a car is running in an automatic transmission, its components become quite hot. The main functions of the lubricant are: washing the gearbox parts for their lubrication and smooth operation, as well as their cooling.

If the car is filled with lubricating fluid of low or poor quality, it may not be safe for use. As a rule, in cases where bad oil is poured into an automatic transmission, it can behave in one of the following ways:

  1. The car does not respond to gear changes. The box may go into emergency stabilization mode. A specially developed automatic transmission operating mode at Skoda. It is analogous to emergency mode, but unlike it, it puts the car into 2nd gear driving mode. At this time, the speed limiter is activated, designed to protect the motorist’s movement in traffic.
  2. The car stalls when shifting into neutral. In this case, the oil temperature sensor may flash on dashboard.

As you can see, the Skoda Octavia A5 has a fairly small number of problems when using poor quality lubricants. All this is the merit of Czech designers, who took care of the reliability of use of this car.

However, in order to avoid such problems, it is worth changing the oil in the automatic transmission in a Skoda Octavia A5 in a timely manner. In this case, you will truly receive a trouble-free car that will travel hundreds of thousands of kilometers on the roads.

Oil change interval

In addition to the use of high-quality consumables, the service life and reliability of use of the vehicle is affected by the frequency of renewal of consumables.

The Skoda company provides data on the required periods for updating lubricants and maintenance periods in the technical documentation that comes with the car.

From 2004 to 2018, various variants of transmission units were installed on cars of the Octavia A5 model range. These included mainly 5- and 6-speed gearboxes with semi-automatic driving mode. At their core, they were no different from the same manual transmissions. Therefore, after half a year, the company began to supply its cars with 6-speed automatic transmissions of the first generation, which replaced semi-automatic transmissions.

By 2011 - and the end of 2012, automatic transmissions with robotic gear shifting were introduced. Tests have shown that its reliability is 61% higher than that of the first generation automatic transmission. The result was the supply of cars of the Octavia A5 line with automatic transmissions of the DSG type at the beginning of 2013.

The technical regulations began to imply the implementation technical work to update consumables every 30,000 kilometers.

Such work entailed:

  • Carrying out an external technical inspection of the gearbox for the tightness of the automatic transmission housing;
  • inspection of the attachment points of the gearbox to the car body (this item was carried out exclusively in cases where the client indicated in the service card that this car have ever been in an accident);
  • checking for damage to the drive shafts, as well as protection attached under the automatic transmission housing;
  • checking the level of lubricants in the gearbox, as well as in the engine (a lack of lubricant mixture in one of the two units can cause problems in the operation of the other);
  • performing electronic control diagnostics (a test drive is carried out on a special stand; if the car service center has a race track, this test is carried out on it).

It is worth noting the fact that since 2015, all Octavia A5 models have been equipped with Skoda’s 3rd generation automatic transmission. It is much more modern than 2nd generation gearboxes. It contains a 2nd generation DSG robotic system, which makes it more reliable and comfortable to use. In addition, it has a much larger power reserve. Maintenance is required only at 60,000 - 75,000 kilometers.

Since mid-2016, models of the Octavia A5 line have been equipped with a 2nd generation torque converter, which gives an advantage in terms of power reserve on one oil up to 1,450,000 kilometers. Since 2016, 5th generation temperature sensors have been installed, they work 273% more reliably, 118% more accurately (they are able to detect the slightest temperature deviations from the norm, after which they display a corresponding notification on the dashboard).

Selection of oil for Skoda Octavia A5

The selection of lubricants should be approached responsibly. You shouldn't buy the first thing you see on the auto store shelf. You can reduce all the advantages of the Octavia A5 automatic transmission to nothing if you use the wrong material.

Before purchasing new consumables, make sure that you find out your automatic transmission ID. In basic versions it is marked TF-60SN, in advanced versions KQ, Q, N, fA and other markings. You should not buy oil with markings that are different from the markings of your automatic transmission. The mixtures are not interchangeable with each other and can damage your car.

The entire line of Octavia A5 cars is equipped with personal ID numbers on the gearbox housings, which are duplicated on the car body (on a special plate under the gearbox itself; when replacing an automatic transmission, this plate is also replaced with the one that comes with the new gearbox). Thus, you can always find the necessary components for your car just by knowing your ID.

More detailed information about the equipment of your car can be found in the service book that comes with the car. This information is duplicated on the front panel of the car body.

Example:
To change the automatic transmission oil, you enter your ID into the electronic catalog of the Skoda company, or any other store. As a result, you receive information about exactly what composition should be lubricant.

If we enter the index 05508420125 A2, we will receive information that a lubricant with the index JWC3309, in a volume of 7 liters, will be suitable for you (the composition of the lubricant, its viscosity, and class will also be indicated).

For the convenience of motorists, lubricating fluids are sold in containers of 1 liter, 3, 5, 8, 10 liters.

The Skoda company notifies car owners that they should preferably use oils similar in performance to Castrol ATF MultiVehicle.

The most common options for purchase are:

  • Mobil ATF 3309;
  • Castrol ATF MultiVehicle;
  • Toyota ATF Type with index T-4;
  • Toyota ATF Type with index T-4 with Swag composition with subindex 81 92 9934.

Please note that when changing the lubricant, the oil filter should be replaced. It is selected based on the data on the packaging of new purchased oil. You should also know that it is possible to use universal oil filters with the number 09G325429A. Filters number 09G325429 are only suitable for MFZ series models.

Experienced car owners are advised to pay attention to the fact that all cars with the A5 index are not serviced under the Skoda warranty. Their maintenance takes place at the centers of official dealers; sometimes car owners change consumables themselves (in cases where official dealer not available in the immediate region). Carrying out maintenance yourself requires strict adherence to the maintenance regulations.

How to change the automatic transmission oil in a Skoda Octavia A5 yourself?

As a rule, on Skoda Octavia a5 oil change in automatic transmission occurs due to repair work the gearbox itself. There are cases when the lubricating fluid is renewed due to its wear and tear. In all other cases, the oil is only topped up, or replaced with another one with higher technical performance.

Lubricant is poured into the Skoda Octavia A5 gearbox once by the manufacturer for the entire service life of the vehicle. However, if necessary, you can change lubricants yourself. Fortunately, the designers at Skoda took care of this.

Main lubricant functions in the gearboxes of Skoda Octavia A5 cars are:

  • lubrication, coating of gearbox mechanism parts;
  • reducing the load on parts during their operation;
  • reduction of heat generation of parts due to their operation;
  • The lubricating fluid flushes the automatic transmission components and removes metal dust particles that are formed due to wear of the gearbox mechanism parts.

Thanks to the use of the Tru K system, the car owner can easily determine from which part of the car a lubricant leak occurred. This system allows you to fill various lubricants into the transmission and engine of the car. Thus, if there is an oil leak, the driver will be able to determine by color which specific unit it originated from.

Colors of ATF fluids used in the Skoda Octavia A5:

  1. Automatic transmission, power steering - red tint, burgundy;
  2. Antifreeze in the cooling system - green, blue (depending on the brand of consumables used);
  3. The engine is yellowish, orange.

Common causes of lubricant leakage from an automatic transmission in the Octavia A5 model range:

  1. Wear of gaskets in the automatic transmission housing;
  2. Deterioration of the shafts (as a result, large gaps are formed between the shafts and sealing rings);
  3. Backlash of the first shaft in the gearbox (occurs after the car has been in an accident);
  4. Damage to the connections between the oil pan and the gearbox, automatic transmission and engine;
  5. Rupture of bolts connecting parts of the automatic transmission housing (occurs as a result of accidents).

It is worth considering that due to the low level of the lubricant mixture, the clutches wear out quickly. Since the lack of lubricant in the gearbox does not allow them to fit tightly to each other. Due to their wear and destruction, the lubricant mixture becomes contaminated with coal dust.

clutches

Consequences of shortages and use of low-quality lubricants (data from Skoda company statistics):

  1. Clogging of the valve body with metal dust (leads to breakage of the bushings in the oil pump);
  2. Destruction of discs with gears in the gearbox;
  3. Clutch drum rupture, pistons burning, shaft sealing rings rupture;
  4. Cracks in the valve body.

rubber coated piston

Due to a long-term lack of lubricant in the automatic transmission, the remaining oil turns into a thick abrasive mixture. This mixture under high pressure in the gearbox creates a sandblasting effect, which causes rubbing of parts of the gearbox housing.

  1. Upper - for checking the lubricant level when hot;
  2. Bottom - for checking the lubricant level in a cold state.

To check the condition of the oil itself, you need to remove the dipstick, then apply a small amount of lubricant to a white cloth.

When updating the lubricant mixture, you need to be guided by a simple principle, namely: purchase the lubricant recommended by the manufacturer. It is preferably better to use semi-synthetic, synthetic oil. However, it is not allowed to use a lubricant mixture of lower quality than prescribed by the manufacturer.

Novice motorists should know that synthetic lubricant is called non-replaceable; it is filled once for the entire service life. Unlike other cars, the Skoda Octavia A5 uses high-quality synthetic oil, which has a range of 155,000 kilometers. This lubricant does not lose its properties even after long-term operation under high load conditions. For the development of this lubricant mixture, Skoda received an award at the Geneva Consumables Exhibition in 2015. So far, no other company has managed to achieve the same performance in its consumables.

To update the lubricant in the Skoda Octavia A5 automatic transmission, you will need the following tools:

  • a set of keys;
  • new lubricant.

Changing lubricants in Octavia A5 models is carried out in the following two ways:

  1. Partial replacement;
  2. Complete renewal of lubricant.

Partial renewal of the lubricant can be carried out independently. In this case, as a rule, a complete renewal of the lubricating fluid will occur after 2 - 3 such procedures. Since during each procedure, the old oil is drained to 40 - 50% of the total volume.

A complete replacement of lubricating fluid is carried out using a special UAZM installation. In this case, you will need about 10 - 11.5 liters of lubricant. It is worth considering that this method of changing the lubricant is very expensive, it will cost 2.5 times more than a partial oil change. And due to the need to use a UAZM installation, not every car service center will be able to perform such work.

Before updating consumables, you should familiarize yourself with the safety precautions, which are as follows:

  • you should strictly follow the instructions;
  • rubber gloves must be used;
  • all procedures should be carried out only on a trestle, repair pit, or hydraulic lift with a built-in safety system (implies an emergency stop of the lift in case the sensors detect that the load may fall off).

Draining old oil and washing the pan to remove chips

The process of changing the oil in an automatic transmission of a Skoda Octavia A5 is not difficult, and will require a minimum of tools and maximum accuracy from the owner. Before starting this work, you must make sure that you have an electric thermometer to check the temperature of the lubricant in the gearbox. Take a ratchet with a 10mm head and a 5.5 hex socket from the set of keys (for new models, use a 5mm hexagon). Do not forget that before changing the lubricant, you should cool the gearbox to 28 C (thus the temperature of the lubricant will be about 38 C).

The step-by-step instructions are as follows:

  1. We unscrew the drain valve plug with a 5.5 or 5 hexagon. As soon as the oil starts flowing, stop and wait until most of it drains. After the oil has drained, completely unscrew this plug. Wait until the remaining lubricant completely drains.
  2. After the oil has drained, you can begin to unscrew the oil pan (after you unscrew it, you should wipe it dry with a rag).
  3. Next, you should change the oil filter. It is worth considering that the oil filter mounts are made of aluminum. When dismantling, you should carefully unscrew the bolts of its fasteners so as not to strip the threads from them.
  4. After changing the filter, screw the oil pan back on.
  5. Then you can start filling in new lubricant.
  6. After adding new oil, start the engine for 10 seconds and check the readings of the oil condition sensor (depending on the year of manufacture, it may indicate in different ways that there is enough lubricant in the automatic transmission).

Difference between automatic transmission oil changes on other Skoda models

The process of replacing lubricant in the gearboxes of Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI and 1.6 MPI cars in the A5 and A7 body may differ slightly. The frequency of updating lubricants can range from 65,000 to 195,000 kilometers. The design features of specific models should also be taken into account.

Selection of lubricants

In the automatic transmission of Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI and 1.6 MPI cars, you should pour only those lubricant mixtures that are recommended by the manufacturer. These models are suitable for ATF brand lubricant, the catalog index number of which is G 055025A2.

Since in last years Cases of sales of counterfeits have become more frequent; this mixture should only be purchased in official stores. In them it will cost 1570 rubles. Thus, for complete replacement lubricant in gearboxes of the above models you will need 6.5 liters of this mixture. The car owner's costs will be 10,205 rubles.

How to change the lubricant?

To change the automatic transmission oil on the Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI and 1.6 MPI in the A5, Tour and A7 bodies, the double drain method of lubricant is used.

Double drain method for automatic transmission:

  1. First, cool the engine (in these models it is best to change the lubricant when the transmission is cold).
  2. After the transmission has cooled, unscrew the level used to check the oil level.
  3. Unscrew the fill valve plug and drain the lubricant.
  4. Wash the pan and oil filter, and then install them in their place (washing should be done using a special wash).
  5. Replace the tube to check transmission oil, after which you can start filling in new lubricant.

After the new lubricant mixture has been poured, start the car engine for 3 - 8 minutes, alternating gear shifts. After this time, reset the TO sensor (to reset the TO sensor, turn off the engine, then insert the key into the ignition, turn clockwise half a turn, after 5 seconds, restart the engine and you're done).

This procedure should be done 2 times, with the exception of resetting the TO sensor 2 times. The engine should be warmed up for the second time for 10 minutes, with an interval of 10 minutes between the first procedure.

Selection of lubricant for automatic transmission DSG6 2016-2018

For A5, Tour or A7 Skoda Octavia 1.6 and 1.8 TSI models produced in 2016 - 2018, the procedure described above with minor amendments to the actions is suitable.

To begin with, you should look at technical documentation car, where you will find information about which lubricant should be used in your configuration. It should be noted that in the new models, the company’s engineers made changes to the design of the gearbox and sensor system.

Thus, when changing the lubricant in these models, you will have to replace the oil temperature sensor (it is mounted on the right side of the universal automatic transmission sensor, and is wrapped in blue insulation). Depending on the configuration, there may be 1 universal sensor. In this case, you will only have to replace it.

automatic transmission oil temperature sensor

The automatic transmission until 2016 differs from the DSG6 automatic transmission not only in design, but also in the required amount of oil. Thus, when changing consumables to new box you will need 4 - 5.5 liters of lubricant.

For owners of cars with the MPI index, you will need 5 - 7 liters, depending on whether this is the first time you are updating the lubricant!

To summarize, it is worth noting that all the lineup Skoda Octavia cars can reliably serve its owner for many years. Thanks to the hard work of Skoda engineers and designers, motorists received truly high-quality cars that have proven themselves to be the most reliable in terms of price and quality ratio. And thanks to the fact that the Skoda company is constantly improving and updating its car models, the number of customers is constantly growing. At this point, you can be sure that Skoda has a prosperous future ahead of it.

Although the officials write that oil is poured into the gearbox once for the entire service life of the gearbox, this does not mean that it does not need to be changed, and even more so for an automatic transmission (automatic gearbox). Firstly, what is meant by “lifespan”? Nobody really knows, maybe it’s 5 years, or 150 thousand kilometers. Therefore, in order to “sleep peacefully” and be sure that the gearbox on your car will work perfectly and go through gears, you need to replace the lubricant in it at least once every 60 thousand km, and even better if it is every 40 thousand kilometers. After all, it will end up being cheaper than expensive repairs. We'll consider independent replacement oil in automatic transmission, on a car such as Skoda Octavia A5.

Once again you can make sure that you need to change the gearbox oil on your Skoda Octavia A5 by draining it and seeing what color it has become. If it is something incomprehensibly black, you are definitely doing the right thing.

Selection and cost of oil for automatic transmission Skoda Octavia A5

The original for the automatic transmission installed on the Skoda Octavia A5 is ATF oil with catalog number G055025A2. The cost of a liter of such liquid starts from 17 dollars (about 700 rubles, if you look, but it’s not a fact that it will be the original). For Officials the cost will be around 1200 rubles. To change the oil using the double drain method, which we will consider for our A5 Skoda Octavia, a minimum of six liters is required. We multiply the numbers and the result is 1200 x 6 = 7200 rubles. It’s a bit much, but everyone decides for themselves.

Alternatively, you can take the following:

  • SWAG 81 92 9934
  • Universal for automatic transmission Castrol Atf Multivehicle;
  • Synthetic Toyota Atf Type T-4.

Necessary materials

So, to replace, in addition to the oil itself, for our automatic transmission, you will need some additional consumables:

  1. Gasket for the transmission pan, its catalog number for Skoda Octavia A5 09G 321 370 and the cost of the original one will be approximately 2.2 thousand rubles. But instead, the gasket from Her number 100 139 0002 fits very well, and the cost is only 260 rubles;
  2. 09D 321 181B - sealing ring for the drain plug, priced around 100 rubles;
  3. A universal cleaner for cleaning the pan and strainer. Here you can take any one you like best.

Replacement using the double flush method

The first step is to unscrew the plug, which is used to check the level of lubricant in the automatic transmission of our Skoda Octavia A5. This is done with a No. 5 hexagon. Be prepared that some oil will drain out if you drove a car before the procedure, as a result of which it was completely warmed up. By the way, it is best to carry out the replacement procedure at a low ambient temperature (later you will understand why) and when the car is completely cooled.

After this, use the same hexagon to unscrew the tube measuring the level. We continue to drain. Be sure to drain the liquid into a container in order to measure how much of it has drained and then pour in approximately the same amount.

The next step is to remove the pan and strainer. At the same time, another 300 milliliters will be drained, which will total 3-3.5 liters.

After this, be sure to check the condition of the magnets. If there is a coating on them in the form of chips or something else, immediately contact the service center; if there is something in the form of dust, this is normal and there is nothing to worry about. Now, after inspection, you need to rinse the pan and filter thoroughly using a cleaning agent. We put everything back in its place. Yes, if you changed the filter at the same time, then its gasket on the plug must be lubricated with new fluid before installing it.

Clamping the pan, twist the tube to measure the level. Now you can fill in new oil. How to do this you ask? This is all done through the same drain hole and for this you can make a certain device, shown in the photo. The thread fits perfectly with a hose from a regular mixer, and two nipples from wheels are used for sealing.

Using a regular compressor (if you have one and it would be desirable to have one), we pump air into the bottle, thereby pushing new liquid out of it. If there is no compressor, you can use a regular pump, but this will require someone's help. You need to fill in the same amount as was drained (+-). We tighten the plug and start the engine. Over the course of 7-10 minutes, we switch the selector lever in all positions to ensure good mixing of the ATF.

We drain the liquid again, but this time without unscrewing the pan. This will be about two liters. This is called the “Double Flush Method”, in which 80 percent ATF renewal occurs. We’ll upload a new one back, maybe a little more. Unscrew the hose and drain the excess.

Correct setting of the oil level in the automatic transmission on the Skoda Octavia A5

Many people ask the question, how can one correctly set or check the oil level in an automatic transmission (in particular 09G) on a model such as the Skoda Octavia A5? To begin with, let’s understand that you need to set it or check it at its own temperature, equal to 35-45 degrees. It can only be measured using a WAG-COM cable and a laptop with the program. If you don’t have one, you can go to the service station after the fill and ask them to do it there. But this must be done, since exceeding the level can affect the operation of the box and cause it to fail.

If you have everything, we carry out the following procedure:

  1. We look at the temperature of the liquid, if it is within the required limits, unscrew the plug and drain the unnecessary amount;
  2. If it is cooler, again unscrew the plug, start the engine and as soon as the number reaches 45 degrees, immediately screw it back.

Ideally, this should be done according to the second point, since it is more accurate and all unnecessary ATP liquid will be drained.

That's the whole procedure. There are certain difficulties and nuances, so if you are afraid to do it yourself, it is better to turn to professionals.
