Skoda octavia station wagon disadvantages features of operation. Skoda Octavia: pros and cons. Specifications Skoda Octavia

15.11.2020

The previous A5 Octavia was produced for nine years - from 2004 to 2013. And in the prime of life - in 2008 - it underwent a major modernization. From "Octavius" in the secondary market dazzles in the eyes. Nothing to be surprised at - nimble, spacious, and, add mechanics, generally reliable. Although, there were some technical flaws (and sometimes failures).

Which motor to choose?

If we count all the variants of the Octavia engines, we get 19 units with a volume of 1.2 to 2 liters. But most of them are hard to find in Russia. The two-liter FSI with direct injection retired back in 2008, the fresh 1.2 TSI did not become widespread (our driver does not believe in such a volume), traditional Russian thinking prevented the diesel 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI from gaining popularity, which are quite reliable and durable. Approximately 90% of all cars are equipped with one of the three most popular engines. Let's dwell on them.

Skoda Octavia 2004

Skoda Octavia 2008

In terms of reliability, mechanics put first place atmospheric 102-strong 1.6MPI with distributed injection. It is very popular in the secondary sector, but you shouldn't blindly take such an Octavia. So, the engine does not have piston cooling nozzles, which can lead to breakdowns due to overheating. In addition, the valve stem seals wear out quickly - possibly by 40-50 thousand km. This increases oil consumption, although the cylinder bore remains wear-free. It is better to change the caps together with the piston rings. Working with spare parts will cost about 10-11 thousand rubles (hereinafter - the prices of an unofficial service). Also, mechanics note that this engine has a changed timing compared to the "ancestor". The car became more cheerful, but there was a feature - the tachometer needle floats a little at idle speed. You just have to get used to it.

There are almost no common and at the same time expensive breakdowns in the Octavia electrics. If they do, they are small, albeit unpleasant. On 1.6 MPI engines, throttle malfunctions occur. The main thing is not to change the whole unit in the heat of the moment, most often the problem lies in the electrical connector and wiring. Repair costs a penny

And what to do for those for whom the strength of an atmospheric engine is not enough? There is, it would seem, the golden mean in the form of a 122-horsepower 1.4 TSI - an excellent combination of power and economy. But for a new car. On the secondary side, the engine is notorious.The destruction of pistons in engines of the SAHA series is not uncommon. Replacing the piston group with a modernized one will result in no less than one hundred thousand rubles. Oil consumption more than a liter per thousand? It's definitely time to sound the alarm. For those who refueled anywhere, the problem manifested itself even at 30-40 thousand mileage. Improvements on cars since 2011 have slightly improved the statistics, but the problem with oil overruns has not been completely solved.

The oil on the air filter indicates the need to replace the oil separator of the crankcase ventilation system, which will cost 6-8 thousand. The power supply system is also not reliable. There is often a problem with the high pressure fuel pump causing gasoline to enter the crankcase. Foreign knocking will help diagnose the malfunction in time. The issue is being resolved by replacing the pusher for 2,500 rubles or the injection pump in its entirety for 15,000.

Among other problematic parts on 1.4 TSI - hydraulic timing chain tensioner. Due to the unsuccessful design of the latter, a jump occurs, which can lead to disaster. An extraneous knock appeared - a bullet in the service. Few people managed to drive more than 75,000 km without replacing the node. A chain with a hydraulic tensioner, guides, a damper and gaskets will cost 10-12 thousand rubles, and the work will cost another 8-10 thousand. In addition, the 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines take a long time to warm up in winter, especially with a seven-speed DSG - we talked about this in the material.

1.8 TSI motors 152 hp more reliable, although they are also famous for their increased oil appetite - two or three liters between replacements. Since 2011, they have also been equipped with modernized piston groups. And similar troubles with oil separator and hydraulic tensioner happen. Here are just some of the costs are significantly higher. For example, a timing chain with accessories will cost from 21 to 27 thousand, and work - about seven. You should definitely listen to the engine in any mode. Knocks during a cold start often speak of the imminent death of the valve timing regulator (from 30 thousand).

Plus to everything turbo engines cannot avoid problems with supercharging... The only question is time. With proper operation, the turbine may not cause problems up to 150,000 km. A sure sign that it's time for repairs is loss of traction, especially noticeable in high gears. There are many reasons: various valves, actuators ... Or maybe it's time to change the turbine itself. Accordingly, the costs of a completely different order - from 4500 to 120 thousand rubles.

For some important work, such as replacing the timing chain, mechanics are advised not to save money and install original spare parts, especially since the difference in costs is not so significant. But there is also a colossal spread. For example, the price range for a steering rack is from 40 to 100 thousand

DSG, automatic or mechanic?

Truly reliable at Octavia only mechanics, which usually does not remind of itself up to a hundred thousand run. The classic automatic machine is also loyal to its owner for a long time, but it initially came with only a weak 1.6 engine. True, since the end of 2011, he was prescribed to the powerful 1.8 after numerous sad cases with DSG. The easiest way to identify such machines is by the gearbox lever - the robots have the abbreviation DSG engraved on it. But the automatic transmission still has a weak point. Often the heat exchanger "flies" (15-20 thousand), because of which the box stops shifting to higher gears. A big plus when buying if the previous owner was puzzled by the installation of an additional radiator.

Whether it's DSG ... A seven-speed robot with dry clutches at the dawn of its life received a solid “two” from mechanics for reliability. After passing only 20-30 thousand kilometers, some "Skodovody" changed clutches! Distinct jerks and vibrations, especially in low gears, indicate a "dying" node. Those who did not attach importance to this discomfort drove to the replacement of mechatronics, which costs 85 thousand rubles. There are people who are up to 150 thousand changed clutches three (!) times, but in general, a box almost never survives up to 200 thousand. By the way, it was up to 150 thousand or five years of operation that Skoda eventually increased the DSG warranty. But if it is over, then you have to pay 45 thousand for the clutch repair kit, plus 10 thousand for the work.

Less worrying is the six-speed wet DSG on powerful cars where the dual-clutch works in an oil bath. Albeit less often, but the owners of cars with such boxes still visited the service with the same problems. In the VW concern, the box is constantly being improved, and now it is no longer so weak. But on Octavias over three years old, one way or another, DSG is causing too many problems.

What other problems?

The rest of the second "Octavia" can be considered a model of reliability. In due time, of course, there were other malfunctions. For example, a whistling pump or a difficult cold start due to freezing lubricant in the starter retractor relay. But, in the overwhelming majority of cases, these and other shortcomings have long been eliminated under warranty by the first owners.

There should be no problems with the suspension. Until the first "hundred", as a rule, the owners are limited to replacing the bushings and stabilizer struts. For everything about everything, you will have to pay around 3-4 thousand. Although, of course, there are childhood sores. Of these, weak thrust bearings can be noted. When turning the wheels, a characteristic creak appears due to clogged sand or dirt - this is about two or three thousand work .. Most of the proposals for pre-styling versions fit into the framework of 250,000 - 450,000 rubles. The updated "Octavias" - already in a completely different price category 400,000 - 750,000 rubles.

Alternative

Those aiming at the purchase of the Octavia A5 often look at the fifth Volkswagen Jetta (350,000 - 500,000 rubles), the fifth-sixth Golf (300,000 - 700,000), Volkswagen Passat B6 (380,000 - 700,000). Competitors comparable in price among sedans and hatchbacks of other concerns, as a rule, are cheaper, but inferior in size. For example, Opel Astra can be found for 250,000 rubles, and for 650,000 - under warranty. Three-year Chevrolet Cruze for 400,000 rubles? Easily! For the same money, a large selection of four- and five-year-old Kia cee "d" and Ford Focus. All of these models have an advantage of 100,000 - 150,000 over comparable Octavias. In turn, the Japanese Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic are in approximately the same price range of 380,000 - 700,000.

The most reliableSkoda Octavia is version 1.6MPIand 1.8TSIon the "handle" or with a classic automatic machine. Turbocharged cars withDSG it is worth taking only "young", and you will have to watch them carefully.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Master-Motors technical center for help in preparing the material.

Owner reviews

The car is reliable, for all the time I have not had problems with the engine and suspension. After 7 years and 85 thousand mileage, I changed the rear silent blocks of the front levers + the rear spring burst. The stabilizer struts and pads are still native. There are no traces of corrosion, few chips - I mainly travel in the city (I live 15 km from the city).

Combined fuel consumption - 7 liters per 100 km. It drives perfectly. There is enough engine in the city - torquey. The condo is working properly, there have been no refuelings yet. In winter, it warms up in 10 minutes. I am completely satisfied with the car so far.

The advantages of the model also include the classic, timeless body and the feeling of security in a large car. Good ground clearance, adequate cross-country ability. A pleasant interior with a soft panel, good ergonomics - everything is in its place.

Noise isolation of the front arches is not very good, they say - a feature of the suspension from the Golf. Wide thresholds stain trousers in bad weather (but there is a pipe with a diameter of 40 mm). Wide front pillars obstruct the view when cornering, you have to turn your head.

Video review

I bought a Skoda and do not regret it, I ride calmly. The car itself is beyond praise, dynamic, responsive, informative steering wheel - several times turned out of such a situation that I thought everything, but pulled it out!

At speed, it is stable, comfortable interior, the climate is such that you can freeze from the cold, it works flawlessly in automatic mode. A year passed, the engine is like a clock, and the course is like an electric motor. If you need to jerk, please, I barely paid off from the cops, they were not even going to catch up with me, they stopped at the post. And I just ran it in the regime! All in all, Skoda is a great car.

Alexey, review of the Skoda Octavia 1.8 DSG 2011

Very smart for 1.4. On the highway 180 km / h goes quietly. The acceleration dynamics are also pleasing. Comfortable. Large trunk (although he does not like gravity). Eats little.

There are more disadvantages ... Weak paintwork, chips and scratches are quite common. Very poor soundproofing of the wheel arches, there is a strong hum in the cabin at speed. In service, if you use original spare parts, it is expensive for a budget car.

But the biggest disadvantage that overrides all the advantages is that it warms up catastrophically in winter. In a severe frost, you go 15 minutes like in a freezer. Then only the arrow starts to rise. Sometimes I manage to get home from work, but the cabin just starts to get warm ...

Eugene, review of the Skoda Octavia A5 1.4 manual transmission 2011

I am very pleased with the car: spacious interior, huge trunk, reliable engine and chassis. The package includes rain and light sensors, PTF, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, great music with eight speakers.

Today I understand that selling this car and even adding 300-400 "rubles", I will not get anything better. Reading about breakdowns of turbines, engines and gearboxes up to a hundred thousand, I am simply amazed, while everywhere they try to present it as the norm. I have not yet said about the body, it is really galvanized and does not rust. But the paintwork is definitely weak, numerous chips all over the body.

Review of Skoda Octavia 1.6 MPI (102 HP) on mechanics 2012

First impressions after Astra are, of course, very positive. Shumka is better, the interior is more modern, not monochrome displays. Mechanics 6-mortar, on the highway - just a song. At 200 km / h - 4,500 rpm. Eats, however, at the level of a 5-speed Astra, but I never paid much attention to the consumption.

We went to Altai on it. No problem at all. Average fuel consumption for the entire trip is 9.2 liters. Coiled 1 800 km in 4 days. The back does not get tired on the road, it is comfortable to sit. Cruise control is a nice feature on uncongested or multi-lane roads.

Acceleration is quite acceptable. At first, the 1.8 turbo generally delighted, now I got used to it, it seems that it does not go. According to the passport, 8.7 seconds to 100 km / h, Astra had 10.5 seconds. The difference is palpable.

Four-wheel drive is working. On the ice, you can feel the moment of power transfer - it drags your ass a little (before turning on the systems). Once he sat on his belly along a soggy country road, hung his muzzle. I thought all that I would have to go out into the slime in clean shoes and work trousers. But no, I left. I turned off all sorts of antibuks, turned the wheels and left. I was very happy. More on this winter road, I did not go around the traffic jam.

The wife, after trips from behind, began to complain that she was seasick. I smoked the Internet - yes, many complain about the excessive softness of their own shock absorbers.

In May, a nasty cricket appeared on the right. It’s very, I’ll tell you, it’s great to live on the Internet, because I’m already prepared to disassemble the torpedo and look for the asshole, and it’s been clear on the forums that we have to go from the other side - under the fender liner on the right there is a block of native signaling, and then it starts to rattle on the turns. He cured him by pulling up and putting in a piece of an old gasket of some kind.

Review of the Skoda Octavia Combi wagon 1.8 TSI with all-wheel drive 2012

I went on my beloved Corolla and did not know troubles, I loved the car very much. But I wanted an automatic machine, climate, cruise, and I decided to take a chance and take a new car.

Now the mileage is 1300 km. The seat is, of course, more comfortable than in the Corolla. But in Toyota I liked the setting of mirrors more, in Skoda - I don't. The review is almost the same for both. The cars have large, comfortable mirrors, but the wide front pillar gets in the way.

In Octavia, passengers do not like the center console, which rests on their feet. In Corolla, no one complained about this. The passengers also do not like the back sofa in the Octavia, the Corolla, again, had no complaints. But legroom in the back in Skoda, of course, is more.

There is nothing to say about the trunk - in the Octavia it is just super. In Corolla, the loops ate up most of the volume. In the Octavia, the noise of the wheels is very annoying. In the Corolla, the wheel arches were less noisy. I do not know about others, but it seems to me that the Shumka is better in Corolla. The Octavia has a very echoing suspension. In Corolla, again, the suspension is quieter.

In general, I liked the Corolla E120 much more. There were no complaints at all about the Turkish assembly. In short, the next car will definitely not be a Skoda. Thanks to all.

Maxim, a review about Skoda Octavia 1.8 TSI with automatic transmission in 2013

29.09.2017

Skoda Octavia) Is a small family car manufactured by the Czech car manufacturer Škoda Auto. The newest history of the Skoda brand began with the first generation Octavia (A4), in which it became a full-fledged player in most of the markets of Europe and Asia, and is practically not inferior in popularity to its "big brother" Volkswagen. To date, you will not find new Octavia Tours, but, in the secondary market, eyes run up from the abundance of offers. And, here, is it worth buying this car over the age of 10 years and with a mileage of about 200,000 km, and also what problems you will have to face after the purchase, now we will try to figure it out.

A bit of history:

The Skoda Octavia concept car was introduced in 1992. At the end of 1995, in the city of Mlada Boleslav (Czech Republic), the foundation stone was laid for the production of a middle-class car - a new hall for a paint shop was built, and the plant was modernized for the production of Skoda Octavia. The bulk of the investment was undertaken by Volkswagen. The name "Octavia" was borrowed from the first two-door sedan of the Skoda brand, which was produced at the plant in Mlada Boleslav from 1959 to 1971. The model received its second life in 1996, when a completely new car was named after it, which was built on the same platform from the fourth generation. The modern version of the model is presented only in five-door body versions - liftback and station wagon.

At the height of the popularity of this model, the plant in Mlada Boleslav did not stop for a minute to meet the needs of the market. Few people know that the time it took to assemble the Skoda Octavia did not exceed 3.5 hours. In 1997, the Skoda Octavia in the "Combi" body was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and already in 1998 the car appeared in car dealerships. In the spring of 1999, an all-wheel drive version of the car debuted on the market. In 2000, the model underwent a restyling, during which the front of the car was changed, a new 1.8 turbocharged power unit appeared, in the development of which the Audi TT engine was taken as a basis. In 2004, the second generation entered the market, despite this, the production of the previous version was not stopped. Skoda Octavia Tour was produced until October 1, 2010. In just 14 years, 1,442,100 vehicles were assembled at factories in the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, India.

Problem and weak points Skoda Octavia Tour with mileage

Despite the fact that the paintwork is of a fairly good quality, today it is difficult to find a car in perfect cosmetic condition. Scratches and even chips are an integral attribute of cars at this age, but, here, their absence should alert. As for the corrosion resistance of the Skoda Octavia Tour body, despite its middle age, the metal confidently resists the onslaught of the redhead disease. Despite the fact that traces of rust do not appear in the places of chips for a very long time, it is better not to tighten them with their removal. On cars manufactured before 2001, there may be traces of corrosion on the sills from the bottom and on the trunk lid. When choosing a car, you need to take into account that the quality of the paintwork on Czech cars is an order of magnitude higher than that of cars assembled in Ukraine and Russia.

When visiting a service station and a tire fitting, you need to ask the master not to put the "plate" of the jack under the stiffening ribs, they are soft enough and can deform under the weight of the car. Over time, the axes of the leashes of the wipers and the door locks suffer from the influence of the reagents (when passing irregularities, a creak comes from the door). If the door hinges creak, get ready to lubricate them every 3 months. Another weak point is the front optics - the protective plastic is sandblasted and cloudy. Also, the disadvantages include the short service life of the boot lid shock mounts, the fact is that it is very heavy and the shock absorbers stop holding it. If the problem is not corrected, there is a risk of serious injury.

Power units

Skoda Octavia Tour has a fairly wide range of power units: atmospheric - 1.4 (60 and 74 HP), 1.6 (75, 101 and 102 HP), 1.8 (125 HP) , 2.0 (115 HP), turbocharged - 1.8 (150 and 180 HP); diesel - 1.9 SDI (68 hp) and 1.9 TDI (90 to 130 hp). Skoda Octavia Tour engines are reliable and durable, with proper and timely maintenance, they do not cause much trouble up to 300 thousand km. But, like any mechanism, power units have certain weak points that can be encountered during operation. The most common drawback, inherent in almost all motors, is increased vibration and floating idle speed. The culprit of this ailment is "badyazhny" gasoline, which cannot be handled by the engine ECU, driven into the strict framework of ecology. In some cases, the problem can be eliminated by flashing the engine control unit, if this does not help, you will have to change the throttle valve.

On cars of the first years of production, with a mileage of more than 160,000 km, rings may be stuck. The reason is trips for short distances or long driving at low revs. To avoid trouble, it is recommended to periodically spin the engine up to 4000-5000 rpm. Cars with mileage over 200,000 km have increased oil consumption. To exclude oil starvation of the power unit, on a run of 200-250 thousand km, cleaning of the oil receiver grid is required. If cleaning is not carried out in a timely manner, this can lead to jamming of the camshafts and a break in the timing belt. Symptoms are a drop in oil pressure during prolonged engine operation at high speeds. According to the regulations, the timing belt needs to be changed every 90,000 km, but practice has shown that it is better to do this for 60-70 thousand km. At every second belt replacement, it is recommended to change the pump as well, since its resource is 150-180 thousand km.

Substandard cooling fans were installed on a batch of cars manufactured after 2007. On most cars, the problematic unit has probably already been replaced, but, just in case, it is better to play it safe and check the fan's performance. The main symptoms are heightened noise and vibration; when scrolling the fan with your hands, you feel a backlash. On earlier versions, the fans nurtured up to 200,000 km. Also, a small resource of the thermostat, on average 50-60 thousand km, can be attributed to common problems. Often, the new owners of the Skoda Octavia Tour are frightened by the sudden appearance of a clatter at idle, however, there is nothing terrible in this - a feature of the gas tank purge valve. If there is increased noise in the rear seat area (it decreases with increasing speed), it is necessary to pay attention to the condition of the fuel filter.

Another weak point is the Valeo starter (it starts poorly in cold weather). In order to save yourself from troubles for many years, it is recommended to replace it with an analogue from the "Bosch" company. The starter service life is on average 150-200 thousand km. Replacement of catalysts is required every 120-150 thousand km. On a Russian-assembled car on an unheated engine, the catalyst can emit extraneous sounds (rattling), after the engine warms up, the sound disappears. The drain plug of the crankcase has a weak thread, when changing the oil, take this feature into account (you need to tighten it carefully so as not to break the thread), otherwise you will have to change the oil pan.

Despite the reliability and ease of maintenance of the 1.4 (60 hp) engine, buying a car with such an engine is not recommended for several reasons. First, this motor is very weak for this car. Secondly, in case of need for repair, it will be very difficult to find the necessary parts. A more modern 16-valve version of this 74 hp engine (installed since 2000) has not only better dynamic performance, but also higher maintenance costs. The 1.4 engine (74 hp) is equipped with a timing chain drive, but, in this case, it is rather a minus than a plus, since the chain resource is relatively small, and the replacement cost is significantly higher than that of the belt. Among the owners of a car with a 1.4 engine there are rumors about the "maintainability" of this unit - indeed, there are problems with this, but only if you try to do everything according to factory technologies (there are no parts with factory dimensions). On copies with a mileage of more than 200 thousand km, the engine is most likely already unpowered, the only question is how good it is.

The 1.6 power unit is the most reliable in the lineup; also, its advantages include ease of maintenance. With proper operation, the engine can serve up to a capital of 300-350 thousand km. Minor breakdowns occur mainly due to low-quality fuel and reagents penetrating into electrical connectors, pads and blocks, which leads to malfunctions in the power unit. Accumulation of dirt and salt leads to incorrect operation and premature failure of the lambda probe (replacement of -50-70 cu). For the same reason, it is quite often required to replace the coolant temperature sensor (30-50 cu). The use of low-quality gasoline leads to premature failure of the air flow sensor (60 cu). After 100,000 kilometers, the EGR valve needs to be replaced. One of the main reasons for an unscheduled visit to the service station can be the electronic gas pedal - a belated response to pressing, or freezing, keeps the speed.

The 1.8 power unit has a complex design, because of this, the cost of maintenance and repair is much higher than that of other engines of this car. The biggest trouble that can happen with this engine is the engine head fails (in the risk zone, cars with a mileage of more than 150,000 km). On this motor, once every 20-30 thousand km, flushing of the throttle valve is required. The first sign that it is clogged is increased fuel consumption - more than 15 liters per 100 km. The appearance of a clattering sound from the engine is the first signal that the hydraulic lifters need to be replaced. On turbocharged engines, the ignition coils are the weak point, often their resource does not exceed 80-100 thousand km. It is imperative to monitor the oil level and keep it closer to the “Max” mark, as the turbine is very painful to tolerate oil starvation. With timely maintenance, the turbine runs 200-250 thousand km.

The eight-valve 2.0-liter engine is surprisingly unpretentious, but, in terms of reliability, it is still inferior to the 1.8 engine. The disadvantages of the motor include an unsuccessful piston group - it often cokes. Due to the high operating temperature of the engine - about 105 degrees, problems with the crankcase ventilation system are also possible. Operating a car with faulty spark plugs leads to failure of the ignition coils.

Diesel engines delight their owners not only with their reliability and good traction, but also with their low fuel consumption. Heavy fuel engines, like gasoline engines, are not without minor troubles with the thermostat, starter, and sensor failure. And, here, a large investment in repairs will have to be done on a mileage of 180-200 thousand km - replacement of nozzles and a particulate filter, on a 1.9 TDI engine, the injection pump fails. On the same run, replacement of the dual-mass flywheel and EGR valve is required. On a run of 230-280 thousand km, it is time to replace the turbine. A little earlier, the boost pressure sensor needs to be replaced. Weak versions of the 1.9 TDI engine do not have a dual-mass flywheel and a variable geometry turbocharger.

Transmission

Most of the Skoda Octavia Tours on the aftermarket are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. Rarely, but, nevertheless, there are cars with a four-speed automatic. And, here, to meet a car with a six-speed mechanics, which was installed in tandem with the most powerful diesel engine, is a great success. The mechanics are reliable, the only complaint that comes from the owners is the fuzzy gear shifting. The reason is the wear of the shaft bearings. If the gears began to engage with effort, adjustment of the rods or cables (with turbo motors) is required. The clutch resource depends not only on the driving style, but also on the volume of the engine, for example, in a transmission paired with a 1.4 and 1.6 engine, the average clutch life is 130-150 thousand km, while on the engine 1.8 does not always nurture 100,000 km. On cars produced before 2006, at a run of 90-140 thousand km, the rivets of the differential may break, which then destroy the box body. Symptoms - hum in second gear, jerking at low revs.

An automatic transmission is less reliable than a manual transmission, according to many owners, a car with such a transmission is considered not the best option for purchasing. The main reason is the capricious valve body, it must be cleaned regularly, even with a timely oil change (every 60,000 km). If this is not done, the Valve Bost valve, which is responsible for blocking the torque converter and the main pressure regulation valve, fails. Also, linear solenoids, speed sensors and wiring are not famous for their long resource. Most of the cars on the secondary market are front-wheel drive, rarely, but all-wheel drive versions are still available. It is better to refuse to buy such a car for several reasons. First, the Haldex clutch did not have exemplary reliability at the time. Secondly, the clutch maintenance schedule is small - 30,000 km, and most of the owners of such machines did not service it properly, therefore, many Octavias have been, especially, front-wheel drive for several years. Repairing the clutch will cost a third of the cost of a used car.

The reliability of the Skoda Octavia Tour chassis

The chassis for this version of the model is borrowed from Volkswagen Golf: in front - MacPherson, in the back - beam ( the all-wheel drive version has a multi-link), all parts are twins. The suspension is quiet and smooths out any bumps in the road. Quite often, when driving at low speeds forward and backward, the owners are bothered by a knock, the source of which, when contacting the service, is not always possible to identify. The reason is that the engine at low speeds creates vibrations that are transmitted to the exhaust system and it is given to the body. The problem is not cured. As for the reliability of the Skoda Octavia Tour suspension, there is nothing to complain about, the stabilizer bushings serve 40-60 thousand km, the struts are up to 80,000 km. Ball joints have to be changed every 90-110 thousand km, a little less often thrust bearings and shock absorbers, every 130-150 thousand km. Silent blocks, on average, go 150-180 thousand km. In a multi-link, once every 100,000 km, the bushings of the transverse and trailing arms will have to be updated.

The steering system rarely brings unpleasant surprises. The steering rack, as a rule, does not cause problems up to 150,000 km, after that, a backlash appears, replacing the rack, in most cases, is required closer to 200,000 km (for a new rail they ask for 200-300 USD). Steering tips run 100-120 thousand km, thrust up to 200,000 km. The only place in the steering that requires special attention is the steering column hinge - play appears over time. The brake system is also reliable, but due to the large amount of reagents on our roads, it is necessary to monitor the condition of the brake line O-rings - they corrode strongly. To prevent brake failure, it is recommended to change them forcibly when updating the brake fluid.

Salon

Despite the fact that the interior design of the Skoda Octavia Tour looks outdated and inexpressive, the cabin is quite comfortable. Cheap but durable materials were used for the interior trim, thanks to this, even after many years of operation, the interior does not look shabby. For connoisseurs of luxury, the Laurin & Klement version is available with rich equipment and expensive finishing materials, although such items are not often found. As for the reliability of the electrical, there are a couple of weak points. Over time, the rear window heating threads stop working. You can fix the problem; this will require soldering the contacts with a special material. On vehicles with mileage over 150,000 km, the air conditioning compressor needs to be replaced. The reason - the inclusion valve is clogged. In case of sudden changes in temperature and an increase in humidity, the instrument panel may "glitch". Of the minor problems, one can note the frequent burnout of the backlight bulbs of the air conditioning control unit and the stove.

Outcome:

Skoda Octavia Tour is one of the most successful models of the Czech concern. Despite the large number of possible problems, the likelihood of their appearance on one single copy is very small. In fact, Octavia is a full-fledged German car with a very attractive price not only for purchase, but also for service.

If you are the owner of this car model, please describe the problems that you had to face during the operation of the car. Perhaps it is your feedback that will help the readers of our site when choosing a car.

The Skoda Octavia passenger car is known all over the world. It has been produced by a German company since 2013. The manufacturer offers two body options: liftback, station wagon. These modifications are practically the same. Especially when it comes to technical specifications. The external data has changed a little: the dimensions of the car have increased. It has become larger, the proportions look harmonious. Despite the fact that the features of other models offered by the manufacturer are noticeable, the style has been preserved.

Decent car. It is safe for drivers and passengers, and the cost is reasonable. Therefore, it is very popular with the consumer.

Weaknesses Skoda Octavia (A5) 2004-2013 release

  • Chassis;
  • Salon design;
  • Electronic control system;
  • The thread in the waste drain;
  • Control block;
  • Automatic transmission;
  • Manual transmission;
  • Clutch;
  • Front stabilizer

The suspension is ideal for Russian roads. It is soft and quiet, smooths out irregularities well. Its only drawback is the knock that appears when driving at low speeds forward and backward. Not everyone can determine the reason for the defect. Some craftsmen sin on vibrations generated during engine operation. They are transferred to the exhaust system, which transfers them to the body. It is unlikely that it will be possible to eliminate the sore.

Suspension parts life is decent:

  • Stabilizer bushings - 50 thousand km, sometimes up to 80 thousand km;
  • Ball joints - 100 thousand km;
  • Support bearings - 140 thousand km;
  • Silent blocks - 170 thousand km;
  • Transverse and trailing arm bushings - 110 thousand km.

Salon design

The weak side of the car is the interior. Its design is not distinguished by creativity and originality. It is quite simple and common. Creative search is a big risk that is not always justified. The manufacturer adheres to conservative views on this issue, so it does not experiment. Its main goal is to keep the car cozy, comfortable and pleasant.

Electronic control system

A non-turbocharged 1.8 and 2.0 liter engine that runs on gasoline is not the best option for a car. The downside is the electrical control system. Quite often, during operation, problems arise with it. To start the engine, you need to turn the ignition key several times. This indicates that the sensor or control unit is out of order.

This situation is observed not only in winter, but also in hot or wet weather. Poor quality gasoline may be the cause of the malfunction. You can fix the problem by replacing the unstable node. Not only is the price high, but the cost of the services of specialists will require additional financial costs.

Thread in the waste drain

Some craftsmen change the oil in the engine on their own. In this case, you should not do this. Since there is a thread in the drain, which is not of the best quality. If you do not take into account this vulnerability of the Skoda Octavia, then it is highly likely that the cost of purchasing a new starter pallet will be required. Its cost is around $ 100. The cost of replacement must be added to this price. It is about $ 50.

Control block

Illness of many Octavia A5 bad control unit. After two thousand kilometers of operation, problems arise with it. Repairing a node is an expensive pleasure. The car owner will have to spend at least $ 500. This includes the price of the part and the service of the master.

This unit is quite gentle and capricious. To make it last longer, the owner of an all-wheel drive car model needs to change the oil only at an authorized dealer.

The weak point of the automatic transmission is the valve body. It is quite capricious and requires regular cleaning, even with a timely oil change. Otherwise, there is a high probability of valve failure. One of them controls the blocking of the torque converter, and the other regulates the main pressure. Low resource for linear solenoids, speed sensors, wiring, clutch and four-wheel drive.

One of the most common complaints from owners is related to troubles in the operation of the manual transmission. The manufacturer advises to adjust the tension cable after 15,000 mileage. It connects the gearshift lever and the gearbox. If this is not done, then problems with the unit are inevitable.

The cost of such a procedure is no more than $ 10. Therefore, it makes no sense to save on it. This point is worth paying attention to if you are buying a used car.

Clutch often causes problems in machine operation. Its occurrence depends on the driver's driving style. If it is bad, then the suspension and its elements will become unusable ahead of time.

Shock absorbers and rear bushings are quite durable. They are able to withstand passage up to 80 thousand kilometers. But if you regularly arrange serious races, then this period will decrease significantly.

Stabilizer's pole

Many cars have stabilizer struts. Skoda Octavia A5 is no exception. A breakdown in this unit occurs due to their insufficient strength for Russian roads.

The main disadvantages of the Skoda Octavia (A5) 2nd generation

  1. High cost of spare parts and services of craftsmen;
  2. The control unit that regulates the opening and closing of doors, trunk;
  3. Ventilation and heating system;
  4. Muffler mount;
  5. High oil consumption by the engine;
  6. PTF glass;
  7. Rigid suspension.

Skoda Octavia of the third generation under the A7 index is the sales leader in the golf class on the Russian market. It sells better than Volkswagen Jetta, Toyota Corolla, Kia Cerato, Hyundai Elantra and other C-class representatives.

This car is loved for its modern appearance, thoughtful interior design, powerful and economical engines, as well as a roomy and functional trunk. Simply put - Octavia looks great, rides fast, inside is comfortable and spacious.

The perfect car? I would not rush to answer this question in the affirmative. Not everything is as smooth as it seems at first glance. Like any other car, the Octavia has its weaknesses and problems that will be discussed in this article.

1) DSG-7... Many motorists have heard about the problems of robotic boxes, how they break, require repairs and, of course, financial investments. Octavia was not spared this problem.

The seven-speed DSG-7 robot under the DQ200 index has undergone a deep modernization after 2014. However, even on these models released after 2014, the mechatronics and clutches often fail. This usually happens at 70-100,000 km.

In the photo - DSG-7 DQ200

And on cars of 2013, owners have to meet with such a problem more often. There mechatronics and clutch die every 40-60,000 km. However, if you installed upgraded parts, then their resource will be greater.

By the way, even for cars manufactured before 2014, the manufacturer gave a guarantee of 5 years or 150,000 km of run. And on the model from 2014 - a warranty of only 2 years.

The cost of a new clutch is up to 30,000 rubles, mechatronics - from 50,000 rubles. Work - 10-15,000 rubles. And this is not from official dealers.

Therefore, before buying an Octavia with a DSG robot, be sure to diagnose the box from an authorized dealer. They will determine exactly how long she has left to live.

2) Turbocharged engines 1.4 TSI CHPA (140 HP), 1.4 TSI CZDA, CZEA (150 HP and 1.8 TSI CJSA; CJSB (180 HP). These are high-torque and economical engines. For example, the 150 HP version with the DSG robot accelerates to the first hundred in just 8.1 seconds, and the average fuel consumption is 5.4 liters per 100 kilometers. This is according to the passport, in practice, about 7 liters on average. Whatever one may say, these are excellent indicators for a family and practical car.

But there is one caveat under the name, or rather its actuator (pressure regulator). It can fail on almost any run, most often after 70,000 km. The official dealer often claims that the actuator cannot be replaced separately and that you need to purchase a complete turbocharger. The price of the new turbine is 116,000 rubles. You can find a used one with a working actuator.

But it's worth noting that some dealers help owners purchase the actuator separately. The price is about 13-15,000 rubles. Some of the owners independently repair the actuator.

3) Aspirated oil lubricator 1.6 MPI (110 HP). It would seem that a naturally aspirated engine that does not have a turbine should be simple and problem-free. But not in this case. Owners have to add 300-400 ml of oil per 1000 km of run. The manufacturer is not going to fix this problem in any way and indicates in the operating instructions that, depending on the driving style and operating conditions, oil consumption can be up to 0.5 liters per 1000 km.

There is a nuance in which the oil consumption increases - this is driving through traffic jams. If you drive mainly on the highway, then you will have to add no more than 1 liter per 10,000 km of run, and when driving in traffic jams, 2, or even 3 liters of oil.

Some owners claim that when filling with oil with a viscosity of 0W30, the oil burner passes.

At the same time, the 110-strong aspirated engine is really reliable. Many taxi companies in large cities use Octavia with this engine and the mileage there reaches 200-300,000 km without major repairs.

Despite its weaknesses, the Skoda Octavia A7 continues to be the leader in the C-class. It is very liquid on the secondary market, it loses little in price and is sold quickly. Apparently, those who buy Octavia know what they are doing and its undoubted advantages overlap the disadvantages.
