Suzuki Vitara, who lost the Grand prefix in the new generation, finally moved away from the off-road progenitors. No frame body, rigid suspension and engine that pulls from the bottom. The novelty is developed on the SX4 platform. In terms of overall dimensions and general philosophy, it is closer to "bloated" passenger cars with high ground clearance than to full-fledged crossovers.

Forester is a mid-size CUV car that can surprise off-road, but to the best of its ability. Even a powerful turbocharged 2.5 engine and a more or less "honest" 4x4 system do not correct the situation, since a continuously variable variator is supplied in 7 out of 8 Forester versions. Therefore, the main place of exploitation is the city with asphalt roads.

Design and interior

During the last restyling, Forester freshened up and began to look more modern. However, the design of the car is still "boring" and requires cardinal changes. Vitara, in contrast to the masculine and fit Forester, looks more feminine, cute and non-aggressive. The big brother SX4 offers 18 color combinations. In this case, the future buyer chooses an original color scheme, for example, a silver body with a black roof.

Not so rosy with the Vitara interior. You can feel the savings in the details. Even the luxury versions of the compact crossover do not impress with the quality of the finishing materials. The driver and passengers are greeted by hard plastic, simple buttons, etc.

Of the advantages of the interior, it is worth noting a cute clock in the central part of the dashboard. The standard multimedia system from Bosch pleases with clarity and high speed. The interior of the Forester looks richer and feels more comfortable.

In terms of interior design and quality of finishing materials, Vitara lagged behind Forester and other compact classmate crossovers. Too few fresh ideas, too much cheap plastic. The interior of the car doesn't look like its money. Subaru Forrester pleases with the ergonomics of the cabin and a cozy atmosphere. Has a modern multimedia system, comfortable steering wheel, high-quality seats.

Selection of engines and gearboxes

Suzuki Vitara is offered with 2 motors to choose from. Both engines run on gasoline. The younger one, which has a factory index M16A, with multipoint injection at a 1.6-liter volume, produces 117 horsepower. Works in tandem with 5-speed "mechanics" or 6-speed "automatic". Its power and maximum torque of 156 Nm is not enough for active driving.

The 1.4-liter BOOSTERJET turbo engine is offered in the S special version. It has serious technical characteristics - 140 hp. and 220 Nm. In a complete set with "mechanics" it is able to accelerate Vitara to the first hundred in 9.5 seconds.

Subaru Forester comes with more powerful engines. There are 3 options to choose from with a return of 150, 171 and 241 hp.

The Forester versions are less economical compared to the Vitara, but more dynamic due to the large power reserve that allows you to maneuver in city traffic and more confidently go to overtake on a suburban highway. 6-automatic transmission is a plus for the compact Suzuki crossover, but the competitor's "variator" is frankly pleasing. It has good smoothness and is well tuned for joint work with motors.

Price

The initial cost of Vitara is 1,055 thousand rubles. For this money, the car owner will receive a mono-drive crossover with "mechanics" and a 1.6-liter engine. The price of all-wheel drive versions of the CUV starts at 1.34 million rubles, which is a lot for a car with a low-power 117-horsepower engine. A model with a 4x4 system, a turbocharged power unit and a 6-automatic transmission costs from 1,585 thousand rubles.

The Forester's starting price reflects 1.66 million rubles (6-speed manual, all-wheel drive and 2.0i engine). The price of the most powerful version starts from 2,599,900 rubles, but the Japanese manufacturer offers much more for this money.

It is not entirely correct to compare prices and configurations of crossovers. However, the price tag for the Suzuki looks a bit overpriced. An all-wheel drive compact crossover with a rather weak engine, insufficiently equipped and spacious interior with a price of 1.5 million rubles is too much.

Road behavior

In an urban setting

Neither the first nor the second car can boast of exemplary smoothness on Russian roads. Suspension Suzuki Vitara conveys minor defects to the body in detail. But at speed, this crossover is distinguished by its composure, it does not roll when entering corners. The only thing is that the acceleration dynamics of a 1.6-liter engine in conjunction with a 6-automatic transmission is not enough. Turbo version 1.4. feels more cheerful.

Forester is too informative and harsh on the road. It conveys the unevenness of the roadway to the passenger compartment in detail, unnerving drivers and passengers. But it rides much more actively and more fun, pleases with accelerating dynamics with low fuel requirements. Average fuel consumption even with a 241-horsepower engine does not rise above 11-12 liters in the urban cycle.

The 6-automatic transmission in the Vitara is more reliable than the Lineartronic CVT. On the smoothness of the course, there are no special differences.

The only advantages of Suzuki over Subaru are the presence of a full-fledged "automatic" machine and lower fuel consumption due to less powerful engines. Forester is a more enjoyable car to drive. Pleases with dynamics in the version with a turbo engine.
