• Introduction

  INTRODUCTION

  In 2009, a new generation of Kia Cerato, known in Europe and the United States as the Kia Forte, was shown at the Chicago Auto Show. The new car is built on the new Hyundai-Kia front-wheel drive platform (it will also form the basis for the next generation Hyundai Elantra). The exterior of the new Cerato (which dealers call Cerato New) was created under the leadership of European Peter Schreier, the current chief designer of Kia, who previously worked with VW and Audi. Perhaps this is why the car is not like other Asian cars. However, the Cerato New is still not a European car, because when it comes to the popular golf class, Western Europe chooses hatchbacks and station wagons, and Kia has filled this niche with versions of the Cee’d model. Fans of sedans, among others, are the residents of the United States, on which the two-door modification of the KIA Cerato Koup, which appeared a little later, is primarily targeted.

  

  The spacious two-tone interior looks rich and matches the exterior. The build quality and trim materials are excellent. A convenient steering wheel with buttons for remote control of the audio system, controls located in their places, as well as large instruments with bright illumination make driving comfortable and pleasant.

  

  Thanks to the fact that the Cerato New has added 40 mm in width and base, three passengers can comfortably fit in the rear seat in the cabin.

  

  Cerato New is at the height and practicality. The already roomy trunk (415 liters) can be increased by folding the rear seat back in parts.

  

  The line of power units of the new Kia Cerato New / Forte is represented by two gasoline engines with a working volume of 1.6 and 2.0 liters and a capacity of 126 and 156 hp, respectively. For the American market, the Kia Forte is also available with a 2.4 liter engine.
  All engines can be equipped with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. A five-speed gearbox is offered for the American market.
  The MacPherson strut front suspension is unified with the Cee’d hatchbacks, but at the rear, the Cerato New has not a multi-link design, but a simpler semi-independent with a twisted beam.
  A hydraulic booster, front disc and rear drum brakes are installed as standard on the vehicle. On request, you can order an electric booster and disc rear brakes.
  The new Kia Cerato New is offered in 11 colors and three possible trim levels: LX, EX and SX. Basic equipment includes ABS, two front airbags, leather steering wheel, power windows, electric drive and heated exterior mirrors, heated rear window, air conditioning, MP3 audio system, USB port, 15-inch steel wheels and a spare spare wheel. The steering column in the basic configuration is adjustable only in height, and the reach adjustment is available only in more expensive modifications.

DASHBOARD LIGHTING (IF PRESENT)

With the side lights and headlights on, rotate the illumination control knob to set the brightness of the instrument panel illumination.

The brightness of the instrument panel illumination (type B) can be adjusted by turning this knob in any position of the headlamp switch when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

SPEEDOMETER

The speedometer shows the vehicle speed. It is marked in metric units (km / h).

TACHOMETER

The tachometer shows the approximate speed of the vehicle's engine in revolutions per minute (rpm). Use a tachometer to select the correct shift timing to prevent erratic engine operation or overspeed operation. When the ignition key is turned to the "BATTERY" (ACC) or "ON" (ON) position with the engine off (OFF), the tachometer needle may move slightly. This is normal and does not affect the accuracy of the tachometer when the engine is running.

ATTENTION
It is not allowed to operate the engine at a frequency corresponding to the red zone of the tachometer. This can cause serious engine damage.

FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR

The fuel gauge shows the approximate fuel level in the fuel tank. In addition to the fuel gauge, the vehicle has a low fuel level warning lamp that comes on when the fuel tank is nearly empty. On slopes or curved road sections, movement of fuel in the tank may cause the fuel gauge needle to wobble. In this case, the low fuel level indicator lamp may blink or start to burn constantly ahead of time.

Running out of fuel can endanger people in the vehicle. After the low fuel level indicator light comes on, or the arrow on the fuel gauge approaches the 0 / E point, you must stop as soon as possible to refuel.ATTENTION
Avoid driving if the fuel level is very low. Lack of fuel can misfire and overload the catalytic converter.

The odometer indicates the total distance that the vehicle has traveled. It can also be useful in determining when periodic maintenance is due.

Note
It is forbidden to interfere with the odometer on any car with the intention of changing the value of its mileage recorded on the odometer. Doing so may void your vehicle's warranty.
The total mileage is displayed continuously unless the display is turned off.

ON-BOARD COMPUTER (IF AVAILABLE)

An on-board computer is a microprocessor-based information system that, when the ignition is on, displays driving data such as total and current mileage, fuel level, average speed, driving time and average fuel consumption. All stored driving information (excluding fuel capacity and current fuel consumption) is cleared when the battery is disconnected.

Briefly press the "TRIP" button (hold it down for less than one second) to select one of the following functions:

TRAVEL ODOMETER

In this mode, the display shows the distance that the vehicle has traveled since the last trip odometer was reset.

The working range of the pointer readings is from 0.0 to 999.9 km. Holding the "TRIP" button pressed for more than one second when the display is in the mileage display mode (TRIP A or TRIP B) will reset the trip odometer (0.0).

DISTANCE THAT A CAR CAN TRAVEL WITH THE AVAILABLE FUEL IN THE TANK (KM)

In this mode, the on-board computer shows the estimated distance that the car can drive with the available fuel in the tank, based on the data on the amount of fuel in the tank and fuel consumption. If this value is less than 50 km, an empty line (-) will appear on the display and the indicator will blink. Operating range of indication of the pointer: from 50 to 999 km.

AVERAGE FUEL CONSUMPTION (L / 100 KM)

In this mode, the on-board computer calculates the average fuel consumption based on the amount of fuel consumed and the distance traveled since the last time the readings were reset. The value of the total fuel consumed is determined based on the fuel consumption data received by the computer. Optimal calculation accuracy is achieved when driving over a distance of more than 50 m. Holding the "TRIP" button pressed for more than one second when the display is in the average fuel consumption display mode clears the readings (---).

CURRENT FUEL CONSUMPTION (IF OPTIONAL) (L / 100 KM)

This mode calculates the current fuel consumption over the last few seconds.

AVERAGE SPEED (KM / HOUR)

In this mode, the average vehicle speed is determined since the last reset of the readings. Even if the vehicle is stationary, the average speed continues to count as long as the engine is running. Holding down the "TRIP" button for more than one second when the display is in the average speed display mode will clear the reading (---).

TRAVEL TIME

In this mode, the display shows the total time the vehicle has been on the road since the last time the readings were reset. Even if the vehicle is stationary, the driving time continues as long as the engine is running. The operating range of the pointer reading is from 0:00 to 99:59. Holding down the "TRIP" button for more than one second when the display is in the travel time display mode will clear the reading (0:00).

Note
If the vehicle is on an uneven surface or if the battery has been disconnected, the function of determining the distance that the vehicle can travel with the available fuel in the tank may not work accurately. The on-board computer may not take into account refueling if the volume of the filled fuel was less than 6 liters.
Fuel consumption (if available) and the distance the vehicle can drive with the available fuel in the tank may vary depending on driving conditions, driving mode and vehicle conditions.
The distance that a vehicle can travel with the available fuel in the tank is an estimate of the distance that the vehicle can actually travel. This value may differ from the actual value of the possible mileage.

CONTROL AND INDICATOR LAMPS

When the ignition key is turned to the ON position, the serviceability of all warning lamps is checked (do not start the engine while doing this). Any lamp that fails to illuminate should be checked by an authorized KIA dealer. After starting the engine, check that all warning lamps have gone out. If any of them remain lit, this indicates a situation that requires attention. For example, when the parking brake is released, the parking brake warning lamp should go out. The low fuel level warning lamp will remain on if the fuel supply is insufficient.

AIRBAG CONTROL LAMP (IF PRESENT)

This indicator light comes on for about six seconds each time the ignition key is turned to the ON position. This lamp also comes on if there is a malfunction in the airbag system. If this lamp does not come on or remains lit after 6 seconds after turning the ignition key to the ON position or starting the engine, or if it comes on while the vehicle is in motion, have an authorized KIA dealer check the status of the airbag system.

ANTI LOCK BRAKE (ABS) MONITOR LAMP (IF INCLUDED)

This lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes out after about three seconds if the system is working properly. If this lamp remains on after the ignition is turned on, lights up while driving, or does not light up after turning on the ignition, this indicates a possible malfunction of the ABS system. In such a situation, contact an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible to check the condition of the vehicle. The vehicle's braking system will continue to function, but without anti-lock braking support.

ELECTRONIC BRAKE DISTRIBUTION DISTRIBUTION (EBD)

If two warning lamps light up at the same time while driving, both the ABS and EBD systems are faulty in the car. In such a case, the ABS system and the main braking system may not operate normally. Contact an authorized KIA dealer as soon as possible to check the condition of the vehicle.

ATTENTION
If the anti-lock braking system and braking system indicators illuminate at the same time, the vehicle's braking system will not function properly when braking suddenly. SAFETY BELT WARNING

ROTARY INDICATORS

Flashing green arrows on the dashboard show the direction shown by the direction indicators. If this arrow lights up but does not blink; flashes more often than usual or does not light up at all, this indicates a malfunction of the direction indicator system. To fix it, contact an authorized dealer. The pointer also starts flashing when the warning switch is on.

BEAM LIGHT CONTROL LAMP

This lamp comes on when the headlights are switched to high beam or when the high beam is switched on for a short time using the turn signal control knob.

LOW ENGINE OIL PRESSURE MONITORING LAMP

This lamp indicates low pressure in the engine lubrication system. If it lights up while the vehicle is moving:

1. Carefully move to the edge of the carriageway and stop.

2. With the engine off, check the oil level. If the oil level is below normal, add oil as required.

If this warning light continues to illuminate after adding oil to the engine, or if oil is not available, contact an authorized KIA dealer.

ATTENTION
Failure to turn off the engine immediately after the low engine oil pressure warning light comes on can result in serious injury.
If the low engine oil pressure warning light remains on while the engine is running, this could result in serious injury. This lamp lights up if the pressure in the lubrication system drops below normal.
Normally, it lights up when the ignition is turned on and then goes out after starting the engine. If the low oil pressure warning lamp illuminates while the engine is running, this indicates a serious malfunction.

PARKING BRAKE AND LOW BRAKE FLUID CONTROL LAMP

Parking brake warning

This warning light illuminates when the parking brake is on and the ignition switch is in the START or ON position. When the parking brake is released, this warning light goes out.

Low brake fluid warning

If this warning lamp remains on, it indicates a low fluid level in the brake expansion tank. If this indicator lamp remains on:

1. Drive carefully to the nearest safe place and stop the vehicle.

2. With the engine off, immediately check the brake fluid level and top up as required. After that, check all elements of the brake system for leaks.

3. It is not allowed to continue the movement of the car if leaks have been found, if the control lamp continues to burn, or if the operating mode of the brake system is abnormal. The vehicle should be towed by an authorized KIA dealer to have the braking system checked and repairs necessary.

This vehicle is equipped with a dual diagonal braking system. This means that even in the event of a failure of one of its lines, the brakes on two wheels of the car will be in working order. In such a situation, to stop the car, it will take more brake pedal travel and more effort on it.

In addition, the braking distance of a vehicle with only part of the braking system working will be longer than normal. ATTENTION
It is dangerous to drive while the warning lamp is on. If the brake warning lamp remains on, immediately have an authorized KIA dealer check the brake system and make repairs.

FRONT FOG LAMP CONTROL LAMP (IF PRESENT)

This lamp comes on when the front fog lights are on.

REAR FOG LAMP INDICATOR (IF PRESENT)

The indicator comes on when the rear fog lamps are turned ON.

SELECTED GEAR INDICATOR

This indicator shows the position of the automatic transmission shift lever.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE CHECK LAMP (IF PRESENT)

The coolant temperature warning lamp operates with the ignition key in the ON position. If the coolant temperature exceeds 120 ± 3 ° C, the lamp lights up red. If the coolant temperature is less than 55 ± 3 ° C, the lamp lights up blue. Do not drive with an overheated engine. When the electronic key is in the vehicle, when the engine start / stop button is moved to the ACC (Accessory) or ON position, the warning lamp comes on and stays on until the engine is started. If the electronic key is not in the car, when the engine start / stop button is pressed, the warning lamp will flash for a few minutes, reminding that you will not be able to start the engine.

If the engine start / stop button is toggled from the "ACC" position to the "ON" position with no electronic key in the vehicle, the indicator will flash for several minutes to indicate that the engine cannot be started.

In the event of a low battery level, when the engine start / stop button is pressed, the warning lamp will flash and you will not be able to start the engine. In this case, you will still be able to start the engine by placing the electronic key in the holder. In the presence of malfunctions of parts associated with the electronic key system, the indicator lamp flashes.

LOW FUEL CONTROL LAMP

This lamp indicates that the vehicle's fuel tank is almost empty. In such a situation, it is necessary to refuel the vehicle as soon as possible. Continuing to drive while the low fuel level warning lamp is on, or when the fuel gauge needle is below 0, may result in a misfire in the engine cylinder and damage to the catalytic converter (if equipped).

ENGINE FAULT CHECK LAMP

This warning lamp is part of the engine management system that monitors the status of various components of the emission control system. If this lamp comes on while the vehicle is moving, this indicates a possible malfunction in this system. In addition, this lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and then goes out a few seconds after starting the engine. If it comes on while the vehicle is moving or does not come on after turning the ignition key to the ON position, contact your nearest authorized KIA dealer to check the system status. In general, the vehicle may be moving, but you must immediately contact an authorized KIA dealer to check the system status.

ATTENTION
Prolonged driving with the emission control system malfunction indicator illuminated may damage the emission control system components, which will affect the vehicle's performance and / or fuel consumption.
If this lamp comes on, it indicates the possibility of damage to the catalytic converter, resulting in a loss of engine power. Have an authorized KIA dealer check the engine management system as soon as possible.

This warning lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and should go out within about three seconds. When the ESP system is on, it monitors the driving conditions of the vehicle. If the conditions are normal, the warning lamp for this system is off. When entering slippery road surfaces or when tire traction decreases, the ESP system starts to work. At the same time, its indicator lamp starts flashing, informing about the operation of this system.

This lamp comes on when the cruise control system is activated. The cruise control indicator on the instrument panel will light up when you press the cruise control ON-OFF button on the steering wheel. When you press the cruise control ON-OFF button again, the indicator goes out.

Control lamp SET cruise control

This lamp comes on when the cruise control function switches (- / SET or RES / +) are moved. The "SET" cruise control indicator lamp on the instrument panel lights up when the cruise control switches (- / SET or RES / +) are pressed. This lamp does not come on when the cruise control CANCEL switch is pressed or when the cruise control system is turned off.

BUZZER FOR REMINDING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION LOCK (IF THE OPTION IS AVAILABLE)

If you open the driver's door with a key in the ignition switch (in the ACC or LOCK position), the corresponding buzzer starts working. This is to prevent the keys from being left in a locked vehicle. It works until the key is removed from the ignition or the driver's door is closed.

ELECTRIC STEERING WARNING LAMP (EPS) (IF INCLUDED)

This warning lamp comes on when the ignition key is turned to the ON position and goes out after starting the engine. This lamp also lights up when an EPS system malfunction occurs. If it lights up while the vehicle is moving, have an authorized KIA dealer check the vehicle.

Kia Cerato of the second generation is one of the creations of the world famous German designer Peter Schreier. After his arrival at the KIA company, all cars of this brand received a bright design and a branded tiger grin, and Cerato is no exception. But the ordinary buyer is more interested not in appearance, but in the reliability and practicality of the car, you must admit that no one needs a constantly breaking, uncomfortable, but beautiful car. Fortunately, KIA engineers managed to combine beauty, comfort and reliability, but there were some drawbacks, and we'll talk about them today.

A bit of history:

The first generation was produced in South Korea. In its homeland, the car was named "Kia K3" and went on sale in 2003. In other markets, the car went on sale in 2004 and under different names: in Europe, Australia, Brazil and the CIS - Cerato, in the USA - Spectra. According to a number of Internet publications, this model immediately became a "bestseller" and in many countries occupied the leading positions in sales for a long time. The second generation of the model was presented at the 2009 Los Angeles Motor Show. The novelty, in comparison with the previous version, had a completely new appearance, which corresponded to the new design concept of KIA cars.

If the first generation was produced in the sedan and hatchback bodies, then in the second generation, instead of the hatchback, they began to produce coupe cars (produced since 2010). All over the world the model was sold under the name "Kia Forte", and in some countries, including the CIS, the former name was retained, due to the desire of the representative office to save money on the promotion of the new model. In the CIS, the car has been officially sold since March 2009. Kia Cerato of the second generation was built on the cheaper platform "Kia Sid", and "" is also built on it. Compared to the previous generation, the novelty has become a little wider and longer. Also, the wheelbase was increased, which has a positive effect on the stability and handling of the car. At the same time, the clearance was reduced by one centimeter, which in turn had a positive effect on aerodynamic performance.

At the 2009 Seoul Auto Show, a hybrid version of the car was presented, this concept Korean engineers equipped with a 1.6 petrol engine, and a 15 kW 20 hp motor, which is powered by a lithium polymer battery. It should be noted that such a battery was first used in the automotive industry. Unlike "", which has a big difference in appearance between the American and European versions, Cerato has only one difference - the color of the direction indicator in the rear lights (in the American version it is red, and in the European version it is orange). The second generation of the car was produced until 2013, after which the third generation of this model came to replace it.

Power units

This model is equipped with simple naturally aspirated gasoline engines - 1.6 (125 hp) and 2.0 (150 hp). European and American copies, in addition to the two engines listed, are also equipped with power units - 2.4 petrol (176 hp), 1.6 diesel (140 hp) and 1.6 turbodiesel (128 hp). Some car owners complain that after starting a cold engine, extraneous sounds are heard from the area of \u200b\u200bthe power unit. This sound is very similar to the clatter of valves, as a rule, appears after 50,000 km. In most cases, the source of this knock is the timing chain, or rather its tensioner, and if the tensioner is not replaced in time, the chain jumps, and then the fatal meeting of the valves with the pistons is inevitable.

When buying a car with a mileage of 80-100 thousand km, I would recommend replacing the tensioner along with the chain. Let me explain why, the replacement will not be cheap, about $ 200, but it will protect you from possible troubles for 70-100 thousand kilometers. At 120-130 thousand km of run, the engine starts to eat up oil, in order to eliminate this drawback, valve stem seals and rings have to be changed. In severe frosts, most car owners have difficulty starting the unit. Transmission

Initially, a five-speed mechanics and a four-speed automatic were installed on the Kia Cerato. In 2010, a small technical upgrade took place, after which they began to use a six-speed manual and automatic transmission. Problem areas of the Kia Cerate chassis

The chassis, in comparison with the previous version, was significantly modernized - in front, as before, a MacPherson-type suspension was installed, but instead of a comfortable multi-link, a non-killable semi-independent beam was installed at the rear. After 60,000 km, you need to monitor the condition of the CV joint boot, since on many copies it is on this run that cracks appear on it, which negatively affects the resource of the CV joint itself. Silent blocks, wheel bearings, ball joints with careful operation will last about 100,000 km. The steering rack is very weak here and by 60,000 km, 80% of cars require replacement or repair.
